* Old Nalandians emerged champions at the six-a-side cricket
tournament held in connection with the 70th anniversary
celebration of St. Peter's Old Boys Union at Bambalapitiya. Old
Nalandians beat the Old Thomians in the final in a
fairly-scoring game.
In reply to the Old Thomians 62 for 3 wickets, the Old
Nalandians reached the target with a wide to collect 66 for 2
wickets. Arjuna Waidyasekera of Old Thomians won the Best
Batsmen's award and Vajira Wijegunawardena (also Old Thomians)
won the Man of the Tournament award. Ranesh Handunettige of Old
Nalandians was picked as Man of the Final. In the semi fianls,
Old Nalandians: (43 for 5 wkts Ranesh Handunettige 14 not out)
beat Old Antonians (30 for 1 wkt Ruwan Kalpage 21). and Old
Anandians (30 for 5 wkts Dharshana Bodiyabaduge 2 for 41) lost
to Old Thomians (48 for 2 wkts Arjuna Waidyasekera 21 not out).
* Ragama CC `A' pulled off a comfortable 56 run victory over Old
Mazanodians SC in their BCCSL Division three cricket tournament
match played at Kandana.
Batting first, Ragama CC `A' made 191 in 41.2 overs (N.Dhammika
24, C.Manchanayake 78, M.Manuel 17, J.Livera 2 for 28, R.Thilina
2 for 22, C.Fernando 2 for 18, V.Senanayake 2 for 40). Old
Mazenodians SC, in reply, were shot out for 135 in 38.4 overs
(G.Maduranga 27, E.Dias 3 for 39, D.Kapurubandara 3 for 24,
E.Jayasekera 2 for 25).
* Little Lions Sports Club scored an easy 104-run win over
Medirigiriya Sports Club in their Board of Control's Division
III cricket tournament conducted by the Polonnaruwa District
Cricket Association and played at Rajarata grounds,
Hingurakgoda.
Chief scores: Little Lions SC 190 for 9 wickets in 44 overs
(Neville Perera 23, P. Liyanage 26, Y. Sampath 19, N.
Wimalaweera 35, H. D. Surasena 20, S. Babu 15, M. Janaka 2 for
15, A. Basnayake 4 for 22). Medirigiriya SC 86 all out in 22
overs (R.W.G.P. Bandara 29, L. S. Vijitha 12, S. Neville Perera
4 for 16, P. D. Chaminda 2 for 18, N. Wimalaweera 3 for 9).
* Kurunegala District beat Matale District on the toss of a coin
in their rain interfered inter district under-19 cricket
tournament match at Matale. Kurunegala District batting first
scored 180 for 9 in 39 overs which was largely helped by two
bright knocks by Gehan Samarawickrema 53 (3 fours, 2 sixers) and
Sameera Kahatapitigama 60 (1 six, 6 fours).
Matale District in reply faced just 9 overs before the rains
came down and the match was decided on toss of a coin and the
Kurunegala skipper called it correctly. Chief scores: Kurunegala
District 180 for 9 wickets in 39 overs (T. Kondasinghe 17, G.
Samarawickrema 53, S. Mendis 19, S. Kahatapitigama 60, A.L.G.
Herath 3 for 33, K. Weerakkody 3 for 36, M. Priyadharshana 2 for
43). Matale District 33 for 1 in 9 overs (M. Ifam 17 not out, M.
Priyadharshana 11).
* Saracens Cricket Club, Kandy propped up by a good knock of 70
not out with 12 fours by Sri Rahula College schoolboy
Chithranath Wijeratne beat National Cavaliers Club, Kandy by
four wickets in their Division III cricket tournament match
conducted by the Kandy District CA and played at Katugastota.
National Cavaliars Club, batting first, made 109 all out in 34.4
overs (U. Abeyratne 79, D. Wijekoon 2 for 13, K. Subhasinghe 3
for 13). In reply, Saracens Cricket Club scored 113 for 6 in
24.4 overs (C. Wijeratne 70 not out, C. Ranaweera 10 not out).
