CCC shot out for 52 by SSC pace trio
by Sa'adi Thawfeeq
SSC's pace trio of Ruchira Perera (6/22), Dilhara Fernando (3/8) and
Suresh Perera (1/12) scythed through the CCC batting to rout them for
a paltry 52 on the opening day of the 3-day under 23, division I
final played at the SSC grounds yesterday.
By the close, SSC had batted themselves into a commanding position
making 205 for two wickets through half-centuries from Upekha
Fernando (89 in 210 minutes, 1 six, 6 fours) and skipper Mahela
Jayawardene (72 in 148 minutes, 1 six, 7 fours). The pair have been
associated in an unfinished third wicket partnership of 147 runs.
Taking first lease of a good batting track after winning the toss,
CCC batsmen floundered against SSC's pace and lost four wickets for
no runs following an opening stand of 20. By lunch they were all back
in the pavilion with four of the batsmen failing to trouble the
scorers.
The wrecker in chief was left-arm fast bowler Ruchira Perera whose
six wickets came off an unchanged spell of 12.5 overs. He was well
supported by Dilhara Fernando and Suresh Perera.
The match continues today at 10 a.m.
