Sri Lanka 266 (Silva 57, Wakely 3-50) beat England 164 for 7 (Godleman 74, Perera 3-15) by runs
Sri Lanka beat England by 102 runs in the final of the Malaysian Under-19 tri-series at the Kinrara Oval.
Sri Lanka were in trouble after being put in by England, sliding to 84 for 4 before Nisham Mazahir (44) and Roshane Silva (57) added 57 for the fifth wicket and then Roshane and pace bowler Thisara Perera (48) 73 for the seventh wicket. They finished on 266.
England's batsmen, with the exception of Billy Godleman, had no answer to the pace duo of Thisara Perara (3 for 15) and Isuru Udana (2 for 26) and the innings never got going. Godleman, who was eighth man out for 74, stood firm but after early setbacks England were never in the hunt and played out their overs.
"We are very happy to win this one as it has always been a tough match against England in this tri-series," said Sri Lanka's team manager Ashley de Silva. "Sri Lanka started badly in batting and some how we managed to pull ourselves up and score 266 runs. But we were sitting on top when England went in to bat and that made a lot of difference."
Sri Lanka now return home but England remain in Malaysia and will be joined by India for a second tri-series.
