At Tangier, August 19. Sri Lanka won by six wickets. Sri Lanka 4 pts. Toss: South Africa.
Only one team turned up for this dress rehearsal for the final - and Sri Lanka coasted to victory,
thanks to another vintage work-it-around performance from de Silva, disciplined bowling from
their second-string bowlers and some particularly poor fielding from the South Africans. Sri Lanka
looked hungry for victory to continue their comeback from the dismal form of their tour of
England; South Africa lacked bite, and even Pollock was guilty of some village-green errors in
the field. Sri Lanka became the first team to succeed in chasing a total in Tangier, though, coming
in a meaningless game, it was not enough to dispel talk of the pitches wearing badly and the toss
being all-important.
Man of the Match: P. A. de Silva.
