Stuart Clark has been named New South Wales captain for the upcoming Sheffield Shield and one-day matches against Western Australia in Perth, with regular leader Simon Katich away on national duty.
The news will be a boost for Clark, who was overlooked for the first Test against West Indies starting next Thursday. This will Clark's first captaincy stint in first-class cricket, an opportunity he gets after impressing the team management with his tactics when he led the Blues in a couple of warm-up matches ahead of the Champions League Twenty20.
It will be a weakened Blues that Clark leads as six first-choice players - including Katich, Michael Clarke and Brad Haddin - are part of Australia's squad for the West Indies Test in Brisbane.
The Blues will take on the Warriors in a 50-over match on November 25 at the WACA, with the Sheffield Shield game to start two days later.
FR Cup squad Phil Jaques, Phillip Hughes, Ben Rohrer, David Warner, Dominic Thornely, Steven Smith, Moises Henriques, Grant Lambert, Daniel Smith (wk), Stuart Clark (capt), Burt Cockley, Josh Hazlewood.
