Islamabad, Feb 23: Sri Lanka skipper Jayasuriya said on Wednesday that
the three-Test series will be an evenly contested affair. He was
talking to reporters after the tourists three-dayer ended at the KRL
ground.
He said Pakistan had all the capacity to bounce back despite losing
all the three one-day internationals. He said his team was not
complacent and was aware of the task that lay ahead.
"We want to continue the good work done in the one-day series by
dominating the hosts in the Test matches. But it would be easy and we
will really have to play well," he said. The Sri Lankan skipper
maintained that the side game provided them a good practice. "I think
we were not upto the mark in the first innings. We should have scored
more runs," he admitted.
Coach Dave Whatmore observed that it was difficult to switch from
one-day competition to the Test cricket. "After the high-profile
one-day games which are totally different from tactics and strategies
of Test cricket, players tend to take time to make the switch," he
said.
The coach and captain said that they have not formed any team
composition for the Test, adding that the squad would be named on the
eve of the Test. On the recall of the experienced duo of Arjuna
Ranatunga and Aravinda de Silva, coach Dave Whatmore maintained that
their performance during the three-dayer would not do anything to
diminish their chances of returning to the Test side.
