Three Sri Lanka players have been fined for breaching the ICC's Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during their team's 25-run win against India in the Asia Cup final in Colombo yesterday (1 August).
ICC Match Referee Mike Procter found Upal Chandana, Kumar Sangakkara and Dilshan Tillakaratne guilty for using offensive language in the match at Premadasa Stadium after a hearing at the Taj Hotel in Colombo earlier today.
All three reports were made by umpires David Shepherd and Billy Bowden.
Chandana and Tillakaratne were reported for a Level 1 offence under clause 1.4 of the ICC Code which relates to "using language that is obscene, offensive or insulting".
Both players were fined 50 per cent of their match fee for the incident which took place in the 39th over of the India innings.
Sangakkara was reported for a Level 2 offence under clause 2.9 which also relates to "using language that is obscene, offensive or insulting" but provides for a higher penalty to be sanctioned than a Level 1 offence.
Wicket-keeper Sangakkara was fined 100 per cent of his match fee for his involvement in two incidents which took place in the 39th and 40th overs of the India innings.
The penalty for a Level 1 breach of the Code may include an official reprimand and/or a fine of up to the equivalent of 50 percent of the player's match fee.
A Level 2 breach of the Code carries a fine of between 50 and 100 per cent of the player's match fee and/or a one Test match or two ODI match ban.
