37 Consecutive first-class matches that Karnataka were undefeated for. That streak ended today when they lost to Maharashtra by 53 runs in Pune. They had won 20 times and drawn 17 since they had gone down to Orissa in 2012-13. They were back-to-back winners coming into this Ranji season but have now failed to qualify for the knockouts; the last time they couldn't do so was in 2007-08.
483 Minutes the Kerala v Himachal Pradesh match lasted in Malappuram; 115.2 overs were enough for a result. Among Ranji Trophy matches for which minutes of play is available, this was the shortest game beating Gujarat v Haryana in Ahmedabad last season, which was played for 493 minutes. However, the first ever Ranji Trophy match between Madras and Mysore at Chepauk in 1934-35 is possibly the shortest match in terms of time: it had lasted just 100.5 overs all of which were bowled on the first day.
137 Total runs scored by Tamil Nadu in two innings against Punjab in Dindigul. The were all out for 68 in the first innings and 69 in the second. It is their lowest match aggregate in first-class history beating the 141 (80 and 61) against Bombay in the Ranji Trophy final in 1972-73. The lowest for any team in the tournament is 51 (23 and 28) by Jammu & Kashmir against Delhi in 1960-61. The record in all first-class cricket is 34 by Border vs Natal in 1959-60. With this defeat, Tamil Nadu, the runner-ups of the last season, also couldn't qualify for the knockouts.
1 time a team has been all out for less than Rajasthan's 51 in their first innings against Odisha to end up winning the match: 49 by Bihar, also against Orissa, in 1958-59. Rajasthan were able to win their match as well. The lowest first-innings total by a winning team in first-class history is 15, by Hampshire against Warwickshire in 1922.
4/0 K Monish's figures in the final innings for Kerala against Himachal Pradesh; this is the joint highest wickets taken by an India bowler without conceding a single run. Lala Amarnath, playing for Railways against Patiala in 1958-59 and Axar Patel, playing for India A against South Africa A earlier this year also removed four batsmen without giving away any runs. With Kerala going out of this season, Monish ends the tournament with 49 scalps.
0 Instances before Ravi Jangid's 110 and 11 for 103 against Haryana that a player had made a century and taken a ten-wicket haul in a match in this Ranji season. In fact, he is the first since Ali Murtaza's 106 and 10 for 142 for Uttar Pradesh against Tamil Nadu in 2012-13. Jangid followed up his century in the first innings with figures of 4 for 44 and 7 for 59. He is also the first Vidarbha player to score a century and take five-wicket haul in Ranji Trophy. Aditya Sarwarte came quite close to the same record after scoring an unbeaten 103 and then picking 4 for 50 in the same match. The only player before Jangid with a century and a five-wicket haul against Haryana was Maninder Singh in 1991-92.
3 Players dismissed on 99 this season; Pankaj Shaw for Bengal against Assam was the latest addition. Before him, Unmukt Chand and Rajat Bhatia had also missed their century by the smallest margin. There were five 99s last season, including when the batsman one not out, and six in 2013-14.
2 Nervous 190s this season - Akhil Herwadkar's 192 for Mumbai against Gujarat is the second of the season. The first came during the first round - Mohammad Saif 198 for Uttar Pradesh against Madhya Pradesh. While the last season saw only two such scores, there were seven scores in 2013-14 and six in 2012-13.
300 Wickets for Ashok Dinda in first-class cricket; he achieved this milestone against Assam recently. In the same match, Pragyan Ojha completed 150 wickets in his Ranji Trophy career. Basant Mohanty got to 250 wickets in the tournament against Rajasthan and Kamlesh Makwana's 200 Ranji wicket came during the Saurashtra v Jammu & Kashmir game.
4 Centuries for Services batsman Rajat Paliwal. He scored 203 against Tripura, which was his maiden double-ton. He had struck 121, 103 and 107 in three consecutive innings earlier this season, which makes him the second player after Sudip Chatterjee of Bengal to make four centuries this season.
10/67 Harbhajan Singh's match haul against Tamil Nadu - Punjab's first ten-wicket haul of the season. He took 3 for 30 in the first innings and 7 for 37 in the second. He bettered his previous best Ranji figures of 6 for 54. This was also his first seven-for in first-class cricket since the Cape Town Test in 2010-11.
77 Number of balls Yuzvendra played without scoring any run for Haryana against Vidarbha; still his efforts couldn't prevent his team from an innings defeat. It is the most number of balls faced in a first-class innings without scoring any run since Sunil Joshi's unbeaten innings of 100 balls without scoring for Baroda against Bengal in 2005-06.
At the end of the group stage, Shreyas Iyer (930 runs) is the highest run-scorer and two bowlers are tied for most wickets in this season - 49 by K Monish and Akshay Wakhare.
