Trinidad and WIPA reach Stanford compromise

Trinidad and Tobago will field a full-strength squad for the Stanford Super Series starting on Saturday after the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA) reached a compromise over the participation fee. It was agreed that the players will now get 60% of the fee of US$100,000 with no incentives.

Trinidad kick off their Stanford campaign with the tournament's opening match against the Stanford Superstars. Negotiations between the WIPA and TTCB had earlier broken down after the players' association demanded that the players get 75% of the fee, while the board was willing to offer them only 50%.

The meeting was attended by Dinanath Ramnarine, the WIPA president, Daren Ganga, the Trinidad captain, and Deryck Murray, the TTCB president, among others. A press release issued by the cricket board yesterday said Murray and Ramnarine "are satisfied with the outcome of the negotiations and wish the T&T team all success in their quest for victory against England's Twenty20 champions Middlesex".

The Super Series consists of six matches played between four teams - Stanford Superstars, England, Middlesex and Trinidad and Tobago. The final match, on November 1 between the Superstars and England, will be played for a massive winner's prize of US$20 million.
