TOCO COMPOSITE continued their impressive run in the PowerGen
Bunty Lara Secondary Schools Cricket competition with a
convincing victory over North Eastern College at Sangre Grande
over the weekend.
The newcomers to the North East zone of the championship
division bowled out their hosts for 78 and 88 runs respectively
and amassed 172 in their only turn at the crease. Skipper Devon
Rogers, cousin of West Indies fast bowler Mervyn Dillon, led the
way with a polished 59 for the winners while Keithon McLatchie
chipped in with 23.
Ishmat Baksh claimed four wickets for 50 runs for North Eastern
while Shivan Bhagaloo captured four for 56.
Clifton Best had taken four for 13 when North Eastern batted the
first time and Kairon Lynch produced the best figures of the
match (5/21), when North Eastern batted a second time.
At the Queen's Park Savannah, Tranquillity Government Secondary
kept their title chances alive when they took first innings
points in their encounter against Hillview College.
After dismissing Hillview for 101, Tranquil got half-centuries
from Kevin Mahabir (70) and Earnel Ryan (55) to reach 210 for
eight declared. Ricky Kowlessar was the pick of the Hillview
bowlers with four for 32.
Batting a second time Hillview, who were undermined by the
impressive spin of Shabir Ali (five for 24) in the first
innings, reached 53 for three.
Also coming away with first innings points from the weekend's
games were El Dorado and Barataria Senior Comprehensives who
took on MLIO at the Savannah and Arima Senior Comprehensive in
Arima respectively.
