†WEST INDIES v ENGLAND 1985-86

At Bridgetown, Barbados, March 19

15-Apr-1987
At Bridgetown, Barbados, March 19. West Indies won by 135 runs. After Gower had won the toss, Botham and in particular Foster put in accurate, lively spells to help restrict West Indies to 249 in 46 overs on a very fast outfield. England's batsmen, however, were brushed aside in 39 overs by bowling of much higher pace. Fatalism set in when Gooch was given out, caught at the wicket, in the fifth over, and much of the subsequent batting lacked commitment. England's best chance of holding West Indies to a manageable total had disappeared when Richards, mistiming an angled stroke off Foster, was missed at slip at 5. His 62 (56 balls, two 6s, seven 4s) was ended by a superbly judged overhead catch by Foster on the long-off boundary at the end of an over by Emburey which had already cost 20.
Man of the Match: I. V. A. Richards.
