WEST INDIES v ENGLAND 1989-90

At Georgetown, Guyana, March 7

15-Apr-1991
At Georgetown, Guyana, March 7. West Indies won by six wickets. Toss: West Indies. West Indies took a winning 2-0 lead in the one-day series, and no other outcome looked likely once a lively England first-wicket stand of 71 had been broken. Gooch and Larkins had shown the pitch to be blameless, with a stream of confident shots off front and back foot, but England's middle order collapsed tamely against an under-strength attack. Five wickets were lost for 41, and only Russell made the final total respectable. The match was effectively over when the West Indies openers put on 113. Haynes, the senior partner in Greenidge's absence, was upstaged by fellow-Barbadian Best, who recorded his first international century before running himself out for exactly 100 off 121 balls. Hooper, whose off-spin had earlier been effective, finished the job with sixteen balls to spare.
Man of the Match: C. A. Best.
