Ryan Hurley is missing from the Barbados line-up for the 2001 Busta Cup by
choice.
"I only want to play One-Day cricket," the 25-year-old off-spinning allrounder
said.
This was the declaration from the Maple player who said it was one of the
reasons why he had opted not to go to national trials earlier this month to
prepare for the regional four-day competition which opens on January 5 with
Barbados hosting Guyana.
Hurley told nationsport it was highly unlikely he would play any more four-day
games for Barbados, adding that he did not enjoy the lengthy version of the
sport.
When asked if he had put his case to tchairman of selectors Desmond Haynes and
his panel, Hurley said he had not passed on the message as yet.
"I've been trying to get hold of Desmond but I was not successful," said Hurley,
a former West Indies Under-19 player.
He said while he did not think four-day cricket was out-dated, he felt that a
One-Day game was more exciting.
"A four-day game is long and you can lose concentration. If I play four-day
cricket I must be involved somehow, whether bowling or batting, or I get bored,"
said Hurley.
He added that he was thinking either of playing semi-professional cricket in
Trinidad and Tobago or professionally in England, for which negotiations
relating to the latter were in an advanced stage.
Hurley, who had his last taste at the national level during the Red Stripe Bowl
in October, said he was upset when Barbados did not win this year in Jamaica and
had not lived down the horrors as yet. Barbados reached the semifinals despite a
shock defeat at the hands of the United States.
