The West Indies' regional limited-over tournament will begin on October 26, it was announced today, but the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is yet to find a sponsor for it. The board is currently searching for one and if it fails it will have to foot the bill for the second season in a row.
The tournament will start in Guyana and will include the West Indies Under-19s, who are gearing up for the World Cup in January next year, the Caribbean Media Corporation reported. The young team was drafted in after the WICB decided to use the competition to help the U-19 players build up for the World Cup in New Zealand.
Incidentally, the limited-overs championship will start three days after the final of the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 in India, which involves regional Twenty20 champions Trinidad & Tobago (T&T). Should T&T reach the final, they will go straight into action at the regional tournament when they return from India.
The tournament will have teams divided into two groups and will be played under a round-robin format, with the group winners qualifying for the final. It will conclude on November 4.
