England v India

Wisden's review of the third match, England v India

15-Apr-2016
At Brisbane, January 20, 2015 (day/night). England won by nine wickets. England 5pts. Toss: India.
Both sides might have been relieved not to be playing Australia again. But the first one-day international meeting between these teams in Australia since the 1992 World Cup emphatically went the way of England, who cruised to just their second nine-wicket victory over India; never before had they beaten one of the top eight nations with as many as 22.3 overs unused. In the city where he had been branded "unselectable" a year earlier, Finn enjoyed a degree of redemption with a one-day best five for 33, without ever approaching express pace. He helped reduce India from 57 for one to 67 for five, then returned to claim Dhoni - one of five dismissals for Buttler - and Akshar Patel with successive balls as they stumbled to 153, their lowest all-out total against England. At the other end, Anderson - in his first one-day international since September - quietly claimed four for 18. England were able to knock off 41 in six overs before the dinner-break: Bell continued his sparkling form from the warm-up matches with a fluent 88 not out, adding an un- broken 131 with Taylor. Even before night descended on Brisbane, England had claimed the bonus point.
Man of the Match: S. T. Finn. Attendance: 8,078.
