England XI v Sri Lanka A

Wisden's review of the first tour match, England XI v Sri Lanka A

15-Apr-2015
At Colombo (SSC), November 21, 2014. England XI won by 56 runs (D/L). ‡Sri Lanka A 198-6 (43 overs) (M. D. K. J. Perera 56; M. M. Ali 3-29); England XI 145-2 (25 overs) (A. N. Cook 54, M. M. Ali 56).
A delayed start after overnight rain meant a reduction to 43 overs per side. Chris Jordan's second over (the 15th of the innings) included three wides, a no-ball, and a six off the resultant free hit, but Sri Lanka A later declined to 122-6, before threatening 200 as Jeewan Mendis and Ramith Rambukwella put on 76* in 14 overs. The first over of England's reply was a maiden, but Moeen Ali clattered six fours in the second, from left-armer Vishwa Fernando (he also sent down a wide, so his only over cost 25). Ali hurtled to 50 in just 21 balls, and shared an opening stand of 94 in 13 overs with Cook. Rain prevented any further play after 25 overs.
