Wood double-century puts Yorkshire in command

Surrey took a healthy lead of 247 into the final day against Oxford UCCE , but their star-studded bowling attack was held up by a classy 82 from Omar Anwar. His effort galvanised Oxford's middle order and enabled them to reach 267 in reply to Surrey's overnight declaration of 452 for 5. There was less resistence from Durham's student batsmen at Chester-le-Street, however, as they slumped from an overnight 24 for 1 to 133 all out, with Marcus North collecting 4 for 16 with his part-time offspin. John Somerville-Hendrie fought back with the ball, however, as Durham's professionals stuttered to 194 for 7 at the close.

Down at Taunton, Somerset were indebted to a face-saving 144 not out from Jamie Cox, after Loughborough UCCE backed up their spirited batting with a regular supply of wickets. Their captain David Wigley led the way - after declaring on 304 for 8, he followed up with 4 for 92, including both openers, as Somerset reached 296 for 6.

Cardiff's struggles continued down at New Road, as Worcestershire clattered along to 506 for 8, before reducing the students to 5 for 2 in their second innings. None of Worcestershire's batsmen made hundreds, although four men scored between 83 and 89. At Fenner's, Cambridge UCCE were facing a heavy defeat - after being set 399 for victory, they reached the close on 57 for 2, although it was a better effort than their first-innings 116. Earlier, James Middlebrook thumped an unbeaten century to set up the declaration.

And at Headingley, an unbeaten double-century from Matthew Wood set Yorkshire on their way towards a crushing win against Bradford/Leeds UCCE, who reached the close on 90 for 5 in their second innings, after being skittled for 98 first-time around. Yorkshire had earlier declared their second innings on 350 for 2.
