World Cricket League expansion opens door for more African countries

The ICC's decision to expand the world cricket league to five divisions was welcomed by the African countries as this has now opened the door for at least one more country to play in the existing league, with the possibility of a second.
The newly included eight team Division 5 tournament will see Botswana do battle against Afghanistan, Argentina, Cook Islands and Norway, in the first half of 2008.
The ICC Development Committee will meet in December 2006 to decide on the remaining three places that may well be awarded to either Mozambique or Zambia, from Africa, depending on the criteria that will be used to choose.
Countries playing in the league will enjoy much needed exposure and also funding to assist them with their preparations.
