WP tour cricket selectors have announced the team to play Griquas in a 45 over friendly match in Kimberley on Thursday. The match has been postponed for 24 hours due to heavy rain in Kimberley on Monday.
Although missing the services of Proteas and SA "A" players the selectors have announced a strong side. As expected Herschelle Gibbs makes a return to major cricket after the drama surrounding the King Commission. He partners WP "foreign" signing Neil Johnson and this must rank as one of the most exciting opening combinations in Standard Bank cricket this season.
In the meantime WP enjoyed their first outdoor practice turf net practice on Tuesday. The team worked out for three hours before lunch and a further three hours after lunch. Joint coaches Eric Simons and Vincent Barnes both expressed satisfaction with the build-up to Thursday's match. No injuries were reported and a further workout will take place on Wednesday.
The squad for Thurdsday's match is: HD Ackerman (captain), Neil Johnson, Herschelle Gibbs, Brian McMillan, Lloyd Ferreira, Andrew Puttick, Renier Munnik, Claude Henderson, Thami Tsolekile, Ryan Joffe, Antonio Mullens and Albert Nkomo.
