Damien Wright, who bowled Tasmania to their first Pura Cup victory in 2006-07, has left the state to take up a 12-month deal with Victoria. Wright missed all of last season with an ankle injury and was offered only a second-round contract with Tasmania.
Wright entered the transfer pool and it is likely he will swap places with Gerard Denton, who left Tasmania in 2004 and is expect to return from Victoria for 2008-09. Wright departs the state as its leading one-day wicket-taker with 65 in 55 matches and his final first-class performance there involved collecting eight victims as the Tigers won their first Pura Cup.
"Damien has made a significant contribution to Tasmanian cricket since he debuted in the 1997-98 season and I wish him the best of luck in his endeavours to return to playing first-class cricket on a regular basis," Tasmania's coach Tim Coyle said. "He has been a huge part of the success of the Tasmanian cricket program and I'm sure will be sorely missed."
