All 29 players offered contracts by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) for the 2006-07 season have taken them up. Ten of these were in the national category and 19 in the provincial contracts category.
"We are grateful to the Technical and Player Welfare Committee for all the groundwork leading to the drawing up of documents that were then offered to the players for their consideration," said Wilfred Mukondiwa, ZC's General Manager, who led the employer's party in the contract talks.
He pointed out that although all the contracted players will get monthly retainers, the contracts are performance-driven: "We want to get the best from the players and so we have made the contracts in such a way that they weigh heavily in favour of the performers. We have come up with a huge incentive scheme that is good for everyone concerned. The better a player performs, the more he gets, ZC gets a return on investment, the sponsors are assured of mileage and the fans quality entertainment."
Full contracts Prosper Utseya, Chamu Chibhabha, Elton Chigumbura, Terrence Duffin, Anthony Ireland, Hamilton Masakadza, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Tawanda Mupariwa, Edward Rainsford, Brendan Taylor.
