Zimbabwe v Pakistan, 2013-14

Wisden's review of the first Twenty20 International, Zimbabwe vs Pakistan, 2013-14

15-Apr-2014
At Harare, August 23, 2013. First Twenty20 international: Pakistan won by 25 runs. Pakistan 161-5 (20 overs) (Ahmed Shehzad 70); ‡Zimbabwe 136-5 (20 overs) (V. Sibanda 31, B. R. M. Taylor 32*; Shahid Afridi 3-25). MoM: Ahmed Shehzad. Twenty20 international debut: Sohaib Maqsood (Pakistan). Ahmed Shehzad's 70 from 50 balls hardly set the contest ablaze, but it was far too good for Zimbabwe. Prosper Utseya's off-spin was treated with a respect bordering on reverence - he got through four overs for 15 by the 12th over - but debutant Sohaib Maqsood (26) and Shahid Afridi (23*) whacked quick runs after a modest start. Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Irfan were too savvy for Zimbabwe's top order, with opener Vusi Sibanda's struggle to 31 from 42 balls contributing to the oddly embarrassing situation of Brendan Taylor finishing on 32* at No. 3; Elton Chigumbura's belated entrance, just 17 balls from the end, summed it up.
