Only consistent good perfomance from GG coupled with failures from others would earn GG a recall ... merely knocking runs here and there won't work .. places are highly competitive now ... you cannot bank on past performances anymore ... Zaheer certainly wanted to be in and has been included to lend experience ... and that too after his REAL transformation (read fitness, performance, etc.)

The bowlers may do well...but wait and see how Indian Batsmen performing in South African pitch...

Gambhir will be back soon. Few more quality knocks in Ranji and it will be quite difficult to keep him waiting.

good, idian team have already very good players, but zahir khan? why dhoni why ?

Posted by ODI_BestFormOfCricket on (December 1, 2013, 15:23 GMT)

gambhir and sehwag passed their prime. Sehwag never played in 4th innings and gambhir misserably failed against eng in eng and india. Poor performance by Sehwag and gambhir against eng in india was the main reason for historic series loss. Had vijay played, result would hav different.

Forget Ghambir and Sehvag. With in the team Yuvraj is a better bowler than Raina any day. If Raina fails with the bat he will be given bowling of 10 overs max possible. But Yuvi won't even allow to touch the ball except when he is fielding. Is MSD is a caption or politician?

Gambhir should play the complete domestic season(ranji trophy) in which he has to show his temparement patience and hunger for the runs,3-4 matches r not enough if anyone is failed for years

Posted by   on (December 1, 2013, 13:53 GMT)

Gambhir is not there because of his attitude and an urge to become Captain.

Posted by mallickdeb4 on (December 1, 2013, 13:43 GMT)

I think rohit should bat at no.4 n then kohli then rahane.jadeja n ashwani making the spinner role in test

While I would have preferred to have an experienced player like Gambhir in SA, the problem is who do you drop? Shikhar Dhawan is having a dream year in international cricket and Murali Vijay didn't do much wrong either. I guess GG could have been tried in the middle order, may be at 4, but that's not his natural position. Having said that, if the batting collapses regularly in SA and GG keeps making runs in Ranji, there will be a strong call for getting him back in the team.

@rohit actually selecting vijay sent wrong signals :P just c his first class record :P yep he played well in internationals on batting tracks which both viru n gamb can do far better

Posted by   on (December 1, 2013, 13:06 GMT)

simple fact-there is no slot available at the top.

Posted by Rohit... on (December 1, 2013, 12:24 GMT)

Gambhir has produced some memorable innings but to select him by dropping Murali Vijay would send a wrong signal to the entire cricketing aspirants as the selection commit y will then prefer the records to the number of runs made on the field.

Posted by   on (December 1, 2013, 12:18 GMT)

Gambhir is not there simply because of politics.

Posted by Sautrik on (December 1, 2013, 11:48 GMT)

drop vijay and bring back gambhir.

Posted by KALPANA. on (December 1, 2013, 10:42 GMT)

I guess Gambhir should have played at number 4 against SA. Would have given good balance to the side. Zaheer can do it for India till world cup 2015. Sehwag is almost finished. But Gambhir still has five more years of international cricket in him. Hope he gets a few good chances before being forever dumped.

Posted by   on (December 1, 2013, 10:23 GMT)

Gambhir will surely be selected for the next series when the inexperienced Indian batting order collapses in SA.

Posted by   on (December 1, 2013, 10:17 GMT)

Murli Vijay and Ishant Sharma is burden ....gambhir is all time best test player .....true that he didn't performed in many matches

Posted by   on (December 1, 2013, 9:34 GMT)

And drop who? Shikhar Dhawan has made an impressive start. Murali Vijay is currently sitting as India's leading run scorer in Tests this calendar year.

Posted by naansari on (December 1, 2013, 7:20 GMT)

Nice cartoon....It's going to be a very crucial series for Zaheer, if he is not performing well then it will be end of the road for him. I think Gambhir should have been selected for SA tour since he is performing reasonably good and need a chance to justify his selection.
