Squat, visored knight, armoured in storied deeds,
Uses his bat's butt-end to shift his box,
Takes guard, gardens for invisible weeds,
Looks up, thanks Dad, ignores two wheeling hawks
No higher in their heaven than him on turf…
Buoyed by devotion's thermals, desis surf.

A hundred runs, two hundred, maybe three,
Will help delete the demi from their god
Give us this day a valedictory
Explosion, oh, let Bombay's sacred sod
Be his last proving ground, his portal,
To that rare rank: Certified Immortal.

Immortals can't cite age as their excuse,
Swansongs must scale the summits of their pomp;
To fail is to invite unhinged abuse
From second-hand men who dimly romp
Through heroes' lives and will go starkly mad
Without that brilliant youth we never had.

Stump wishes to jump away from the approaching ball, Bails holds the stump tight, to ensure it doesn't fall, Pitch longs for him to score century and stand tall.

Bat waits to kick the ball out of the park, Ball looks to middle the bat to make a mark, Stadium lights glow as bright as possible in the dark.

Grass bends flat to make a fast outfield.! Boundary rope feels handicapped, as they arr unable to increase his yield.! What you people think is right! Yes, they are greed.!

All for one person who gave life to cricket.! People would pay beyond their strength to get his match ticket.! Ground empties, when he loses his wicket.!

Green round ground, crowded all around.! Sachinnn Sachinnnn is what we hear aloud.! We belonging to his generation, feel proud.!

When you are at the crease, for the opposition team you create a panic called Disaster

You made your bat talk making your critics apply on their mouth a Plaster

Your mere presence in the dressing room can make our team chase a score Faster

You have given rise to many budding cricketers who each have turned into a Blaster

Sachin, in Cricket, who can be better than you oh our dear Master

Sachin, we hereby salute your wonderful Passion

On this occasion of your retirement we respect your Decision

Not able to see you again on the cricket field, creates in us a sort of Depression

We like to owe our support to you in your future Vision

We will all stand besides you even in your slightest of Tension

Sachin, please do not retire from Cricket, I want to scream this Aloud

Leave alone the earth; you are the one who can play Cricket even on a Cloud

In the line of your shots, anyone should run away searching for a Shroud

Sachin, you are the wonder kid who have made our Nation Proud

All of us want to see you back on Cricket field where you belong to and we will cheer you Loud

Sachin, with your retirement news you have fired on us a Missile

But we know how much pain you carry all alone behind your Smile

Even now, how come you are still so poised and Agile?

We will keep on loving you through any Mile

We can never forget you even after a While

He can mesmerize with his glorious shots on any Wicket

There is no bowler who can make him stay in their Pocket

To watch him one will be ready to afford any price for a Ticket

He is the one who sends the balls flying across the world like a Rocket

He is the one and only one - Sachin Tendulkar - The God of Cricket

Cover drive, Square drive or Straight drive, to watch his drives is a sheer Delight

Seeing him run around and play like a small kid on any ground is what an astonishing Sight

He is the perfect role model for anyone who wishes to master his skills which are Watertight

He is the only one who can smash around all the corners of the ground even in Twilight

Thank you Sachin for carrying our Nation's pride on your shoulders to a great Height

If cricket is a religion Sachin is the only supreme god. He has always been a thorough gentleman & a patriot. He deserves all love, affection & tears. I do not know how I will watch these last 2 tests as I am a fan of over 22 years now. I used to watch from terrace, balconies, outside shops when I was young, now I watch in DTH & in my car. Sachin has always been like a Sun to India for over 24 years, everything changed but he never changed. I have only 1 prayer & that he should reverse his decision to play more tests for India.

When the times were tough

and the victories count thin,

Your self assuring nod at the crease

Brought about a grin,

In the hearts of a billion people

You gave us a reason to smile and cheer,

As you disdainfully took apart bowlers

And in their minds struck terror and fear,

You were the reason I would day dream,

Visualizing in my head

The straight drives you would cream,

To play cricket, to bat, to inspire, to be a source of nightmares to opposition bowlers

That is why you were born,

All would agree with me on this,

Especially the legendary Shane Warne,

Few men in the game command your veneration

And there would certainly not be another sachin in this generation,

Some men are acquire greatness and lustre,

Others are just named sachin ramesh tendulkar,

People rightly call you the god of cricket,

And your presence will be sorely missed at the wicket,

You have served us with well with yr drives, yr punches, yr pulls and the numerous flicks,

WOW - Brilliant! "Give us this day a valedictory" ... Amen!!!

The man whom cricket loved back

Sambit Bal: Tendulkar was the biggest worshipper the game could ever find, and in that lay the foundation of his greatness

Tendulkar's perfect balance

Sharda Ugra: While the team, the country and the sport changed around him, Tendulkar remained constant

Why do we insist on seeing the 'real' Sachin?

Rahul Bose: You can ask as much as you want for a more "human", more "feelable, touchable" Sachin, but he'll probably not change - and that's a good thing

Zaltz Stats

The approximate number of people in India today who had not been born when Sachin Tendulkar made his Test debut in 1989 (calculated from these figures). His batting has been so erotically outstanding that the global population has increased by almost 2 billion during his career, with the biggest increase, understandably, in India itself.

I have played cricket for 24 years, it has been only 24 hours since retirement, and I think I should get at least 24 days to relax before deciding these things.

Sachin Tendulkar doesn't want to think of what lies ahead just yet
