Michael Hussey was still taking deep breaths when he sat down shortly after the match to discuss what he had just achieved. It hadn't sunk in. Australia shouldn't have won this game, they really shouldn't have got close.

The fact they were victorious with a ball to spare was down to one man who produced something even he doubted was possible. Words like "freakish", "extraordinary" and "special" were thrown around after his 60 off 24 deliveries, but for once they weren't too far off the mark.

One impact of Twenty20 has been the number of innings that are acclaimed as out of the ordinary in their immediate aftermath. When there are so many boundaries, so many run chases and so much cricket in a condensed period, it can be hard to retain context.

After Yusuf Pathan clubbed 100 off 37 balls early in this year's IPL, Shane Warne called it "the greatest innings he had seen", seemingly forgetting a couple of epics by Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar to start with. Twenty20 is still such a young game that the true gauge of performances will be how they are recalled in 10 or 20 years.

Given that Hussey's display came in a world semi-final against a good bowling attack under immense pressure, it may just last the test of time. "I think that's probably the best feeling I have ever had on a cricket field," he said. "Particularly in such a big game when I was having so many doubts, I had a feeling it wasn't going to be our day - when balls kept lobbing over us in field. Before today hitting the winning runs in the Adelaide Test against England was pretty special, but I think this tops it."

Whether Hussey retains that feeling when his career ends remains to be seen, and he may reflect that one of his many Test or ODI epics settles at the top. But it goes to highlight the seriousness with which Australia are now taking Twenty20 when a victory is rated higher than one of the greatest Test successes in history.

When Cameron White was caught at long-off for 43 Australia still needed 53 off 21 balls. Basically almost every delivery had to end up at the boundary and that isn't far off what happened. It was all down to Hussey. Steven Smith only managed 5 and in the 53-run stand that sealed the win Mitchell Johnson's contribution was 5 off three deliveries - although crucially he squeezed a single off the first ball of the last over.

"I can believe it because of the guy sitting beside me," Michael Clarke said after the game. "[Hussey] and White had an amazing day. I honestly felt Pakistan scored 15 runs too many. But you just can't write us off, with the class and experience we have in the team.

"This was just a freakish performance from an unbelievable cricketer. When we lost a few wickets it was always going to be hard to chase that total. Then I just couldn't watch the last over after Mitchell got a single. I was in the dressing room and heard cheers so knew it was a six, then another one and I thought: 'What's going on?'"

Hussey's striking in the final over will be what is recalled, but the way he played the penultimate six balls was a master class in limited-overs batting. The target began as 34 from 12 and Hussey collected all 16 that came from the 19th over with deft placement and hare-like running. No one could have done it better, not even the king of run-chases Michael Bevan, who used to keep his side in seemingly impossible pursuits.

Hussey has grabbed the mantle of Australia's finisher and has done it so effectively in the 50-over game that he still maintains an average over 50 after 140 matches. However, translating that into Twenty20 didn't quite come as easily. Brute force, such an important skill in the dying overs of a 20-over match, wasn't natural to him and even in this innings he used a few balls to get in.

"I'm not the kind of batsman who can go in and clear the ropes from the first ball so to start with I was just trying to give the strike to Cameron [White]," he said. "Then it came to the stage where every ball had to go and you just have to try. Even I wasn't that confident we could do it.

"It was all a bit of a blur and with last ball I just wanted to hit it out of the middle. I'm so happy and it's great to see the elation on the boys' faces."

His average has lifted by nearly 12 runs during this tournament as he has settled into the No. 7 position. He is Australia's safety valve, who has twice come in with his team in trouble against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to lead a recovery. When he launched Saeed Ajmal for the third six in the last over everything else looked tame by comparison.

It was sad to see PAK loosing it, becoz after India, I support our brother pakistanees. but i am sure that both india and pak will bounce back.

Nicely said realredbaron. More often people are so patriotic that they forget to give due credit for the team ultimately won. as far Nouman Pervez Butt is concerned, we all hear these shouts for years even before Pakistan toured Down Under and we all know what happened there. Pervez Butt, only we can do here is to shout for our respective teams but the fact is that they play the game not we. We show next time does not hold any meaning in this contest.

i think the main reason aus was able to chase this score was CAMEROON WHITE...though hussey played out of his skin and played one of the best T20 knocks..but throu out the match WHITE was the one who kept them in it...Hats Off to his as well! :).and secondly..v sld also keep in mind dat pak wsnt at their full strngth this tournament..consider Umar Gul playin in place of Hafeez(who did not face a single ball this match) ..Australia mite not have been able to reach 170 evn..and there wasnt Rana Naved as welll whho (if i remember corectly) bowled 4 consective Maiden overs against australia in the Champ. Trophy...And V were without Malik...our middle order didnt look that strong..!..i hope Australia win the T20 crown...come July..Pak faces Aus in a 2 off t20 series..and Pak (hopin they have no controversies..and will be with their best T20 team)....will defently take Australia Out.! and besides LUCK FAVOURS THE BRAVE

Posted by   on (May 16, 2010, 7:17 GMT)

@cricketisagame: Did you really predict that Aus will beat Pak and Eng will beat S.L. If so, I'm very amazed. You are saying that S.L. is nothing in front of Eng. Yes they played bad, but on paper and before match, how can you predict such thing? As of Pak, if I'm not wrong, its called the most unpredictable team. And thats what they had shown us. Still, you predicted so confidently. Amazed!

@gr8st_sachin_critic: Dear Friend, why dont u check the scorecards of some of the matches I have mentioned, eg Chennai Test 1998, recent innings of 175 against Australia. You will be surprised by how little was left for victory if the set batsman had not choked under pressure. You can give all the theories that you want as explanation, but even you know in your heart that they will sound hollow.. Just as hollow as your cricketing God usually is when under pressure..

Posted by rori11 on (May 16, 2010, 2:37 GMT)

@gr8_sachin_fan: well sachin fan let me tell u one thing tht wen it comes to finishing matches u dont xpect an opener to ever do tht job coz its the job of a middle or lower order batsmen to finish games n hussy belongs to middle order. tell me one opener who has fnished games over the yrs for ny side..can u say d same wid hussey had he opened the innings for his side n faced the new bal..u r talkin abt gettin der but nt taking thru..well well well at 60/5 n wid only tailenders left(chennai test) how many times did lara or ponting take der side thru...sachin gets d rteam so close n the other 10 idiots nver finish d job for us.. so v always tend to forget wt he did n point fingers at wt he cud not achive...hussey has always been der 4 aussies like bevan but 2day coz he played such an innings every1s claiming him master of cricket etc..dats a shame to playerd like sachin, lara who hav done so much 4 der countries n sum of dem hav gone unnoticed or been criticized..

wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, i reckon this is the best run chase in t20 history. hussey hats off to you man.

Right now I am afraid for England. They would have to come all guns blazing. I wrote off Australia in the 15th over and left for work but was shocked and amazed to find out they won Good luck England. Every one have to come to the party for the English.

Great innings from Hussy.....In 2007 yuvraj's 12 ballls 50 stands out as best innnings...fIn 2010 this innings is best....

Oh Lord! Why do you always desert Pakistan?

Posted by cricketisagame on (May 15, 2010, 20:01 GMT)

Sorry aKumar, I dont think Pakistan is representing subcontinent side. To begin with pakistan sneaked to the semis, not qualified. They definetely played very well in the semi and made up to their earlier failures exept against SA. Australia played like a Champion team, unbeaten so far, and perhaps they deserved this win than Pakistan. It will be very interestig final between England and Aus. Both teams are well balanced and hard to predict the winners, unlike the semis.

Posted by realredbaron on (May 15, 2010, 19:24 GMT)

okay, all these superfluous praises for Pakistan is getting too old. Pakistan lost the game fair and square. Did they play good? Yes. Did they play good enough? Absolutely not. There have been more runs scored in a twenty 20 match before, there have been more runs scored in a last over before and there have been bigger chases before. Pakistan did almost everything right except they just could not accomplish everything right. They lost the game. Could they have won it? Surely if they had a better captain than Afridi, who quite surprisingly kept too many fielders inside the circle in the last over. C'mon Aussies needed 6's and 4's, not one or two! Did Ajmal bowl the best line and length he would ever bowl at a death over?! Giving Hussey his due credit, the answer is no, Ajmal did not. Get over it guys. Australia won, Pakistan lost. A deserved result. Good game of cricket from both teams. And nothing to lose sleep over here because after all it's cricket-the game of glorious uncertainty.

Posted by kabaalee on (May 15, 2010, 16:09 GMT)

Michael Hussey's innings reminded me of another innings by a batsman who was excellent at out-thinking his opponents : Javed Miandad. Just as India did not know what hit them at Sharjah, Pakistanis are perhaps wondering still as to what hit them yesterday at St Lucia. While Pakistan played a great innings, it won't be easy to recover from this defeat. For about 4 overs, Mr Cricket and Mr. Nice Guy played more like a "psycho" on the loose. He is known more for his classy shots and for picking gaps and not as an obliterator of a team's morale. That changed yesterday. Hats off to Hussey !

Posted by Meracric on (May 15, 2010, 16:05 GMT)

Well played Pak Team. Should have Sami in the team in place of Hafiz. Sami is an experienced bowler. If Aamir and Sami had bowled the last four overs the result would have been different. You cant play such a big game with just one fast bowler. You cannot count Razzak as a regular fast bowler. Australia was playing with 3 fast bowlers and we choose only one. Hope we do better next time with the team selection. Gul was missed on this occassion. His presence could have made a big difference. Both Hafiz and Misbah needs to be replaced. Shoaib Malik should come back in the team. Good Luck Pakistan. My best wishes are with England to win the final.

Posted by   on (May 15, 2010, 16:01 GMT)

no doubt pakistan played really well,,,,but what irritates me and millions of us that why cant they play like this all the time???? if they have the capability they should maintain a certain level of constant performance ..not be this unpredictable----australia won because they believed in themselves---even when it had become impossible ---they believed in themselves because they win all the time---they keep playing at a very high level which instills self belief in them---pakistanis became uncertain in the end---in the last over they just stopped thinking----however i think pakistan should try to play like this all the time in all formats so that they can become a constant force in world cricket---unfortunately we stand nowhere now.

Posted by rajzillion on (May 15, 2010, 14:12 GMT)

Bowling outside the off would really have been asking for it when Hussey, or for that matter, any good batter is at the crease The laurels, despite the great game, cannot really be shared. Aussies walked away with them in the end. I don't think Waqar could have done more short of taking the ball himself in the last over. I guess Ajmal couldn't hold his nerve in the end. No point blaming Afridi. He is a really good guy and plays his heart out for his country. The better team won.

Posted by gr8_sachin_fan on (May 15, 2010, 13:33 GMT)

Congrats Aussie fans!! Your Mr Cricket is a player against whom even our master falls short!! Our master has a habit of not finishing the games and leaving others to do the pressure job!! It happened in Chennai long ago!! Even in Sharjah were the team won, the job was left for some other players to finish.. But your MR Cricket is the top finisher of a game.. And yesterday was the best example of that.. So we India fans humbly accept that Mr Cricket is ahead of the Master..

we played like tiger and im really proud of my team and one day we ill fetch a victory like this from ausies, watch out for aus vs pak in england.

Posted by AKmAK on (May 15, 2010, 11:54 GMT)

Really..its unbelievable!!! so far in this tournament he (Hussey) was struggled.. but the end of the day he made it (truley that's his day), that is what the attraction of this format. Anyway Pakistan played brilliantly and they lack the LUCK, no matter the result, they (Pak team) can return home with raising heads. Well done Pakistan (I'm an Indian fan), you showed the sub-continent strength, appreciated.

Posted by Aahd on (May 15, 2010, 11:52 GMT)

@Rasheed Ahmed: Pakistan looked Captainless? ...well really, some people can't do anything but criticize. For the first time in the tournament, Afridi looked the part; he made good bowling changes, most of them came off. He was vocal in the field just as it suits the Pakistan team and, if anything, other than perhaps having Aamir bowl the last over and having Ajmal bowl the second last one, I don't think he could have done anything better. Australia was just the better side in the end purely because Hussey never gave up. Pakistan didn't lose, the Aussies won it fair and square. We lost the game but I'm a Pakistani fan with my head held high because of the team's performance last night. Great work guys! Better luck next time. :)

Usually LAURELS are reserved for only the winning team.... but on this distinct occasion these are to be shared equally between the two teams. WHAT A MATCH!!!

Posted by asfandyar_pakipower on (May 15, 2010, 11:36 GMT)

well done to pakistan !!! obviously thins kind of defeat is very hard to digest when u lose the game which u seem to be wining all the way...i think waqar younas really showed his lack of coaching experience when he failed to pass the messge that pakistan bolwer should bowl hussy little outside the off stump when a guy scores 90 percent of his runs on the one side you have to question the coach's tactis and secondly pakistan should be proud of what they did with so called invincible aussies fast bowlers ..when they started bowling all of them were laughing but very soon they got a akmal shock be very frank it was one fluke win for australia where every hit went out of the park ...

Hussey has pulled off an unbelieveable innings...Congrats mate!!! you can take a bow...Pakistan played really well but it turned out that luck ran out on them in that fateful last over..which in essence was good cricketing shots but yes, luck was laso mishit & it would have been curtains for Australia..anywaz with Australia in this form ..England will have their hands full..anywaz the best 2 teams essentially made it to the finals..hope that the finals also turns out to be a cracker like this

Truly magnificent, after Pakistan dominated Australia in 17 out of the 20 overs. Michael stole it from them after that. But Well done, Pakistan. For most of the time, it looked like it was their match. They did not lose it. But Australia won. Now down to the 20-20 ashes, in what would be a final clash after 23 years. Remember Eden Gardens - 1987 world cup. Australia made it that time. England is playing their best cricket for some time now. Let us hope to see another close game. May the better team on the day win.

Its truly an amazing, unbelievable innings from Hussey. Being Bevan's big fan, I was upset when Bevan was replaced by Hussey. Until yesterday i did not believe that Hussey is as good as Bevan.Hats off to Hussey for the way he set up his innings & freakish blows he hit.Pakistan played good cricket yesterday and Hussey & cameron white played gutsy cricket.Australia is the best and is very much cherishing to see their never say die attitude.

Posted by cricnar on (May 15, 2010, 8:28 GMT)

Well Done Huss! and thanks for the entertainment

But I feel Afridi could have done better by asking ajmal to bowl over the wicket after the first six. The pakistanis fell into the trap of trying to restrict hussey by bowling on his legs. In the end paid the price.

Hussey has a weakness in the ball spinning away from him.

But that is just a food for thought. When in was watching hussey, i felt he would have still managed to pull it out for australia. he was is supreme touch

Posted by W350 on (May 15, 2010, 8:16 GMT)

Well played Hussey!!! think one he played one the best knocks in t20 till date...amazing presence nd calmness to finish of the game in such a crunch match!! aussie's look like a team out to prove a point or 2.

Great Innings. Seemed impossible at first , but the way he batted was Marvelous. It was sad to see the Pakistan bench freeze at the sight of what they were watching in the middle.

Mr.Cricket is really Mr. Cricket afterall....never ever expected Aussies to get o the final as i watched the last few overs in awe. Many teams aroudn the world need to adopt this "never say die" approach to their cricket. Hats off to Mike Hussey - he is truly one of the best players of all time.

I am a deep fan of Australian team. During this match, I was awaken till 1 AM in India. I was thinking to shut the TV as Pakistan was almost sure to be in Final... But... There couldn't any word for White and Hussy's batting. Both are ultimate and perfect. Never seen such a great inning in pressure... I had no regret to stay awaken till late... Real Miracle!

Posted by sarathy_m2 on (May 15, 2010, 7:51 GMT)

Mr. Hussey is uncomparable in recovering the game from any depth it has gone. He has done that several times before, this one is best of all, may he better this sometime!

Yopu cant set filed for strokes like that, Birliant!!!!

Posted by   on (May 15, 2010, 7:06 GMT)

Well, I have no doubt in my mind that this is one of the best knock anybody has played in any formats of the game chasing. Firstly, it was a semi-final game of a world event and secondly with the slow-nature of the wicket and humidity being on the higher side, a miscued shot was always on the cards with the pressure to hit everything out of the park but he ensured he middled everyth. Mike hussey had to calculate aptly what he was trying to do and after Aameer went for 16 in the penultimate over, 18 in the last over looked a probable job. Saeed Ajmal was one of the finest performers for pakistan with the ball in the match and he only conceded 5 to white in the 14th over wen he was looking really ominous. Mike hussey also had to make sure he had the strike for most of the time and he did it. It was not only about sheer timing, placement and power but also good mental toughness, confidence and head shown that handed aussies a win out of nowhere. Nobody else in the world could do that.

Posted by Dhoni_fan_from_a_dada_era on (May 15, 2010, 7:01 GMT)

mike hussey is the man!! bow to him. absolutely thrilling and stunning cricket. more important because he's one of those great classical batsmen as well. Not your stick and pinch hitters like Yusuf! its gonna be a pieterson vs hussey in final...Hope both plays great!

The Nov 4,1987, the infamous Lahore debacle repeated. The game was won on merit & Australia out did Pakistan, yet again. In retrospect a lot may be said but Australian Power Cricket as they have played this edition of 20-20 World Cup, may be hard to match & beat. The peak may rob them of the final, which would probably require playing more than power cricket. The test ahead is a mix of diverse English bowling & an able captain whose composure and mettle may shroud signs of confusion. Above all an opponent who is neither complacent nor celebrating victory before the match gets completed. Hussey 4all the great innings played would definitely be remembered for butchering a great spinner. Saeed Ajmal, may not have bowled that badly but was tamed, mauled and splited 4good. The innings of Hussey may have healed Pakistan cricket for good and may lead to removal of incompetence, apathy, bigotry & short sightedness. If this is wishful thinking I would still say thank you Hussey, you have helped.

Posted by   on (May 15, 2010, 6:46 GMT) done it again for Australia, I expect such inning from warner, watson, d.hussy or White. No one was expecting from but he has prove again he is also a good finisher in T20 as well. May be Pakistan has taken it light after 64 for 4. but Australia who always fight till the end, had make it possible. Hope there will be much more Fun at barbados between the two oldest revivals.

Posted by BellCurve on (May 15, 2010, 6:39 GMT)

The best finisher in ODIs is now also the best finisher in T20Is. If you look at all three formats of the international game over the last five years, Hussey stands head and shoulders above the rest. Over this period he simply has been the best batsman in the world.

true ....I just watched the Best game of cricket ((Hate to say it, since i am not a big T20 fan....and I almost turned it off...Reminds me of Istanbul 05 )) maybe not the best ever ...but a very great game. .,..What the hell just happened ? Too much width and all over. Pakistan got 20 runs too many ...all off Johnson. I would maybe even drop Clarke, he is the Captain - great in Tests and 50 overs but.... bring in Ryan Harris and make White the Skipper ... I say the ICC should bring in a rule that players are ONLY allowed to play in 2 of the 3 styles.... So in a few words..tough game to loose - Bye Bye Boom Boom ..Sorry boys the Aussies now take this hit and run game seriously !

Posted by   on (May 15, 2010, 6:27 GMT)

WOW!!really WOW!!i!this man is insane!as an indian fan, for the first time i really enjoyed watchin aussies win!the looks on the faces of the dug out and hussey after the last 6, priceless!!!i think this wud always top the best innings list for michael hussey himself beating his ODI and test "finisher's" exploits. only because there he was doing what he does best, finishing games with 1's,2's,3's and cover drives and square he had to hit it out of the park almost twice an over to jus maintain the sight of the finish line..and he did better than that..all the best for the aussies in the final..i think it is apt to say the 2 best teams have reached the final..i am with england though..jus because they havn won anythin and they need to win...for world cricket!

Posted by tick on (May 15, 2010, 6:26 GMT)

One more thing.Pakistan played really well,it was not their day.and if i am not wrong its only Pakistan who have given a tough time to Australia.i really feel sad for my team that they lost to England in 19.3 overs even they had dropped 5 catches, lost to New zeland by 1 run and now this match.without a doubt Pakistan played well but it wasn't their tournament to win.and one more thing people talk about Pakistan losing 12 games to Australia, but out of these 12 Pakistan should have won atleast chams trophy match,Sydney test,Brisbane and Perth odi's and Melbourne's t20.And lost in this semi just highlights the point that they lost these winning matches on mental ground not on cricket ground.

A great and unforgettable innings from Hussey. Hats off to Cameron White. We are still due a inings from Clarke. I want England to win this cup and lets see if they beat mightier Aussies.

Australianism," wrote Arlott, "means single-minded determination to win - to win within the laws but, if necessary, to the last limit within them. It means where the 'impossible' is within the realm of what the human body can do, there are Australians who believe that they can do it - and who have succeeded often enough to make us wonder if anything is impossible to them. It means they have never lost a match - particularly a Test match - until the last run is scored or their last wicket down.".........RESPECT

I can't believe that Pakistan lost.We were winning till 38th over of the game and than ...Hats of to Australia they played really well and even winning when it was not possible could only be done by them.and whose the man,MIKE HUSSEY this guy is not a man,he is cricket's knight rider, indeed a dark night.he stool away the whole match from Pakistan and i couldn't find any thing that Pakistan has done wrong,it was just this FREAKISH innings by the extraordinary cricketer.and like Waqar younis i also can't believe that we had lost the match.unbelievable game of cricket,it was like watching AUS -SAF match of 438 run chase in t20 format.really the best match of this worldcup.

Hallelujah.....Praise the lord....T20 has been saved thanks to Pakistan & Australia....After all the IPL farce, nightclubs, parties, booze and all....this match is for the archives......Michael Hussey played the innings of his lifetime.....even an ardent Australian supporter like me thought we were in the dumps but Hussey rose like a Phoenix from the Ashes!!! Australians played like CORNERED LIONS!!!!!.......THIS WAS DESTINY...finally thnks to pakistan for being competitive.....

All hail Mr. Cricket!!! Absolutely stunning performance! Cameron White was great too. But Hussey was awesome in the last two overs...the running, the! And the quality I admire most in Aussie players like Hussey, Lee, White and Warner is that they not only are 110% cricketers, but they let their cricket do all the talking. So great to see a nice guy finish tops!

Australians are not top dogs of world cricket for nothing. They are number 1 to 10 and rest are not even in top 10. Pakistan have been their favorite whipping boys all this summer. Pampered indian superstars are nothing against likes of Hussey. With regards to pakistan they are very ordinary side as it can been seen from their results in tests and Odis. All their batsmen are sloggers, they don't have one half decent batsman or bowler. Their supposedly 2 best bowlers yesterday weren't able to defend 45 runs in last 3 overs yesreday. They did little bit better yesterday due to the nature of the pitch. But frankly they did not deserve to be in finals. No wonder no other team respects them. What with Afridi biting the ball and stuff like that. England and Australia have been 2 best teams and they rightfully deserve to be in Final. Despite being england supporter I can simply admire Ausies. They really are the best.

Hey man, Yusuf scored his century off 57 balls and not 37 balls. That record still belongs to Shahid Afridi........

Posted by   on (May 15, 2010, 5:51 GMT)

18 or 20 runs required in final over is always thought to be almost impossible but it was Hussey who made it possible.Good cricket by both teams but in the end Hussey did great job for his country.

What a performance from Australia!!!I am not a great fan of Australia but that performance has made me admire them.Chasing 70 in last 5 overs with half the batters back in pavilion against a very good spin bowling attack in conditions that suited the bowling team and alien to the aussies is a terrific achievement. The belief they showed even after being outplayed for most of the match is something teams like India have to learn. As for Pakistan they need not be ashamed...if you are going to lose a world cup semi-final you have to lose to that kind of a performance.England's middle order has never been tested throughout the tournament and i am sure they are going to tested in the final.England are going to be blown away by the aussies in the final for sure.

Posted by   on (May 15, 2010, 5:44 GMT)

That was one of the best batting performances ever. Truly majestic!!!

Posted by JGuru on (May 15, 2010, 5:35 GMT)

Easily the best of the run chases in T20 cricket history. Hussey was just unbelievably outstanding. As he admitted, even he would have been so sure as to how the match would have ended. But his hitting skills were so supreme that he pulled off one of the best victories for Australia. Pakistan did give their best in this match, in fact more than just 100%. Batted beautifully, bowled full throttle and ground fielding was not all that bad. You just have to give credit to White and Huss. This match is not just special for Australia because they did what they even did not believe. But it sent a message across the world that Oz are ready for the T20 party. This remarkable win will boost the confidence of the players and will keep their morale high and flying for the finals. It is going to be a cracker of final between the oldest rivalries in the world. Look forward to high quality final.

NOBODY will grudge Australia the mantle of World Twenty20 Champions. They have won convincingly against EVERY country.

Posted by Conynine on (May 15, 2010, 5:22 GMT)

hey Huss we are proud of you mate, you have proved that aussies are invincible and almost impossible to be beaten. Aussies have made a statement that no matter how big the target is, we will chase it down. We r the real champions and are at the best at what we do. I salute you aussies, you are the gurus of cricket and the sensible ppl should understand it by now. GO AUSTRALIA

As an Asian and absolute lover of the game I must admit of seeing the best a cricketer can produce in a run chase when odds are heavily stacked against you especially given the high profile world stage. I can write million phrases describing the innings Hussey played which still believe he did an impossible thing possible.Well all you can do is just admire this awesome and exceptionally gifted cricketer and salute his Parents for giving this wonder son to the worlds cricketing stage. Nothing can ever gets better. Take a bow Aussies.

Posted by jonesy2 on (May 15, 2010, 5:09 GMT)

the greatest limited over innings ever played and there will not be a better one for as long as we live. from a extrordinary cricketer

Posted by   on (May 15, 2010, 4:50 GMT)

He is the modern day Bradman! Nobody could have done it better. "Mr.Cricket" has produced so many special & great knocks in his 5 year career than many batsmen who play 10-15 years at international level. Ian Chappell was right in saying that he is the man for all seasons. He is the man for all positions in batting order, any conditions, any format and any opposition. Love to see him performing till next Ashes in Eng in 2013.

Posted by HeruKumar on (May 15, 2010, 4:37 GMT)

Michael Hussey aimed at bringing the match to the last ball. His constructive innings was really constructive. In the Last 3 overs he used to take 5doubles and invairably hit the last ball for a boundary. He was a true Australian who gave his best effort for the victory.

Yes , it is Australians miracle performance . They have higher confidence and ability to face and win such a great moment. All cricketers must have this kind of confident to give biggest victory for their countries. Hope Our boys should come back and prove themselves in further tournament. Jai Hind.

wow wat a man!!!wat a finish!!!aus deserves this win for their consistency in this tourny...well done aus..And aus eng final!!!wat better cud v ask 4!!!!!!!

Posted by aharps on (May 15, 2010, 3:33 GMT)

The Australians succeed at this point of major tournaments because above all they play for the team. They really don't care about salaries, endorsements, media profiles and averages - they just want the TEAM to win. Theres time to think of such things when the playings done. No other team in world cricket for the last 20 years has been able to bring together a group who want to play for their teammates and their country as much as the Australians do and the results speak for themselves. They don't win everything but they never lose from lack of desire or effort.

Posted by henchart on (May 15, 2010, 3:23 GMT)

Run England run.Aussies have steam rolled one over rated and one unpredictable team each from the subcontinent .It is England 's turn in the final to be the bridesmaid yet again.

Posted by Ganes.V on (May 15, 2010, 3:14 GMT)

WOW It was simply superb. When every other batsmen would have just given it away thinking it is impossible- Of course M Hussey also says that he didnt think it was possible too- he did not give up. Almost all other batsman would have given up and M Hussey just continued. I thought the bowling order should have been changed.Aamer should have bowled the 20th over& Ajmal the 19th.No one thought it was Aussies game and hats off to M Hussey who did an unbelievable batting effort.I was watching it live and just couldnt believe it myself when it happened. India lost to SriLanka from this position in their match in S-8-2 overs 30 runs and here it was 34 from 2 overs. I was reading Harshas blog about the speacialist batsman at No:7 regarding Hussey and this was another perfect example of it.This shows the Australianism- which is unique for them alone. No other team would have tried to win from that stage like what they did except when the bowling team bowls bad like the Indians did against SL.

great innings - A true finisher is really an asset to any team ! As a Pak. fan i really think we need someone who not only plays the team out of the woods but makes sure that he's still out there till the very end; until the job is done. Hats off to Mr. Cricket !!

It was amazing cricket from Mike Hussey.....If somebody wants to learn to play cricket..they should watch this game repeatedly, as the game is all about mental strength and self is a phenomenal game and this is why..Simply... hats off to Hussey.....

Mike Hussey take a bow- this is the greatest t20 innings of all time so far because it was done in a semi-final of a world cup against quality bowlers.

Posted by feevish on (May 15, 2010, 2:03 GMT)

Not sure why people are against twenty20 and always suggest that it shud not be counted. It is young etc.I accept that it is not old but the greatest can be gauged only by the current state and not future. When Sachin scored 134 against the aussies in Sharjah everybody said it is the greatest. I didnt see anyone arguing that one day he will score 200 and that will be his greatest. Ridiculous!!

if look into his avg in every format of cricket then you should know only he can play such an innings.I think after bevan aussies got a wonderful finisher who can win you a match by snaching it form opponents hand.

Posted by   on (May 15, 2010, 0:22 GMT)

Hussey, what a legend, I wish had been able to see the innings. I had to go to sleep afteer seeing Pakistan set 191 and I was sure they would have won. Checking the result the morning I'm shocked. Well played Pakistan, I hope none of us Aussie's will rub salt into your wounds and gloat over this victory, Pakistan should be VERY proud of their performance

Hey hussey u r the best! keep up the good work man!!

Posted by   on (May 14, 2010, 21:54 GMT)

Michael Hussey played innings of his life and he has every right to fell better than he ever did. I think Afridi was too rigid and scared for not trying new things on the field. They certainly had runs on board to support that. Saeed Ajmal is vulnerable against left handers as his "doosra" is not as dangerous as it is for right hand batsman. With three run a ball to scre you can back an average medium pacer with good head on his shoulder to bring your team home. Razzaq had enough experience to take Pakistan to third consecutive final of T20 but that was not so. Well done Michael Hussey, Cameron White and Australia. It will be an intriguing final.

Posted by HBar on (May 14, 2010, 21:46 GMT)

Just give the cup the Aussies now. There is no need for a final.

Im just flabbergasted, like Clarke said, the guys a dam freak!! You cant really fault Pk, it was a pretty faultless display. On the face of things Pk deserved to win that actual match. But for consistency Aus deserved to go through. Cameron White did OK but lets be honest, there was one man that won the game for Aus and that was Hussey. Im disappointed yet proud to be a Pakistani fan after this w/c, its not easy playing like this whilst ur home country is falling apart, so the lads have got to be commended!!

This is the sort of innings in my view, that makes cricketers great. Hussey really is a great. Never mind poking and prodding and playing human chess on the pitch, hitting the shots like that under tht sort of pressure on wt was really a lost cause really is a sign of greatness. This isnt a flash in the pan either, hes consistently been good, he's stuck out his bad run of form and has now come back waaay stronger.

Posted by Adolfhitler89 on (May 14, 2010, 21:24 GMT)

Mike Hussey is the best batsman in the world & a true champion. His innings in today match was extraordinary. It was like a fairy tale.

Posted by   on (May 14, 2010, 21:24 GMT)

This guy is going to be a legend.... Amazing stuff. But amazing by Pakistan too.....

Posted by CricketRealist77 on (May 14, 2010, 21:23 GMT)

Credit to Pakistan they played to the best of their ability but when Australia flexes its muscles in big tournaments the rest of the world submits! Now to the match that really matters-the two in form teams Australia vs England in a World Cup final can't wait.

Lets all surrender to Mr. Cricket. He deserves this respect. And yet he stays humble. Great players are always humble like Sachin, Lara, Bradman, Richards, Hussey, Muralitharan

Absolute gem of an innings, hats off to you. You showed the way cricket needs to be played and hopefully India will learn from this who gave up before they were knocked out.

I am going to first one to comment on this I hope. WOW. What an Inning. I was the first one on when he did his first interview with Cricinfo's Coverdale. Absolutely price less, I hope my fav. team members do something like that in future.
