Pakistan Under-19s 241 for 9 (Hussain 65, Minhas 44, Yug 3-52) beat UAE Under-19s 171 (Misbah 77, Subhan 4-31, Hussain 1-23) by 70 runs
In a virtual knockout, it was Pakistan who prevailed over UAE to book their place in the semi-final of the U-19 Asia Cup. On Tuesday, Pakistan opted to bat first, and six of their top seven batters scored at least 20. But the most remained Ahmed Hussain's patient 65 off 91 balls.
The highest partnership of Pakistan's innings was 52 between Hussain and Hamza Zahoor, who scored 42. The pair pushed Pakistan past 200 after they were 160 for 5 in the 36th over, but Hussain's dismissal turned out to be the first of four late wickets which Pakistan lost.
After making 124 in their first 29 overs, Pakistan scored 117 runs in the next 21 overs which took them to 241. Yug Sharma took two of his three wickets in the death overs. Pakistan's total, though, proved to be more than enough.
UAE started confidently in their reply, as openers Ayaan Misbah and Yayin Kiran Rai added 42 in the first seven overs. Even after Abdul Subhan struck for Pakistan to get Rai and Zainullah Rehmani back-to-back, Misbah and No. 4 Prithvi Madhu brought UAE back on track. Misbah, though, was run out for 77 off 74 balls after a 58-run stand in the 24th over.
UAE looked steady even at 142 for 3 in the 31st over, but quickly lost 7 for 29 as hopes of an upset faded after every passing wicket. Subhan, who bagged 4 for 31, was named Player of the Match, as Pakistan booked their spot in the final four of the tournament.
