Trinidad and Tobago beat Nevis by 74 runs in the second semifinal of the Stanford 20/20 competition and will now play Guyana in the final on Sunday for the big prize. Kieron Pollard played a blistering hand, scoring 83 off just 38 balls, and was well supported by Daren Ganga, the captain, as T & T put a big score on the board and defended it with some ease.
Stuart Williams, the former West Indian batsman and currently captain of Nevis, won the toss and chose to put T & T in, a decision that was to backfire spectacularly. Although Nevis managed to get rid of both openers with only 57 on the board, a third-wicket partnership of 114 between Pollard and Ganga (62*) ensured that T & T posted 210 from their 20 overs. Pollard with as many 7 sixes and surprisingly only 4 fours, scored at a strike-rate of over 200 and set up his team's innings.
When it was the turn of Nevis to bat they badly needed a solid, if not desperately quick, start, but they ended up with the opposite. Mervyn Dillon and Samuel Badree knocked the stuffing out of the top order, reducing Nevis first to 8 for 3 and then 37 for 5. This virtually ended the match as a contest, and only a fighting 65 from Joel Simmons, the wicketkeeper, pushed the score towards respectability.

India women cling on for draw

India's batsmen clung on for the draw in a surprisingly nailbiting finish to the first Test at Grace Road

India's batsmen clung on for the draw in a surprisingly nailbiting finish to the first Test at Grace Road. They were left needing 271 after England declared on 345 for 8 and had just two wickets left at stumps. After the opening days had panned out with great tedium, the last two days at last provided a worthy spectacle.
Rumeli Dhar and Amita Sharma battled valiantly to save the match after their top order had crumbled to 74 for 6. And at one stage, it even looked like they could possibly take India to victory. But those thoughts were soon quashed when Dhar was out.
Nevertheless, even a draw had seemed highly unlikely earlier on in the day when three of the top four made ducks and India were in the mire at 10 for 3, having lost their mainstays Monica Sumra, Mithali Raj and Anjum Chopra without scoring. Jenny Gunn took two of those wickets, and Laura Marsh the third.

Guyana advanced to the finals of the Stanford 20/20 tournament with a six-wicket win over Grenada at St.Johns. Mahendra Nagamootoo, the legspiner, starred with a five-wicket haul to restrict Grenada to 158 for 8, while Lennox Cush, the opener, helped Guyana polish the target off with relative ease, picking up the Player-of-the-Match award.
After Grenada lost the toss, openers Andre Fletcher and Clevroy Antoine began well, adding 86. Fletcher was the more aggressive of the two, managing five fours and two sixes in his 50. However, both openers fell in quick succession to Narsingh Deonarine, bowling his offbreaks, and the middle order failed to capitalise on the start. Rawl Lewis, the Grenada captain, scored 36 but lacked support from the rest, as Nagamootoo ran through the middle and lower order to finish with figures of 5 for 15.

Claire Taylor ton powers England

Claire Taylor struck an authoritative century as England enjoyed a commanding day with the bat to play themselves right back into this match

Claire Taylor struck an authoritative century as England enjoyed a commanding day with the bat to play themselves right back into this match. Laura Newton, the vice captain, just missed out on a ton of her own - she made 85 as England whipped their way to 229 for 2 by the close, a lead of 154.
India added 60 to their overnight score before losing their final three wickets, leaving them with a first-innings lead of 75. The final wicket went to Laura Marsh, who had a victim on debut at last.
Jhulan Goswami had England in early trouble, removing Charlotte Edwards for just 4 before the home side had much chance to chip away at the deficit. But if India's bowlers thought that this was the beginning of a successful day for them, they were wrong.

Glamorgan complete thrilling chase

Glamorgan produced an impressive run-chase to beat West Indies A in a high-scoring thriller at Ebbw Vale

Glamorgan produced an impressive run-chase to beat West Indies A in a high-scoring thriller at Ebbw Vale. Devon Smith's 135 powered West Indies past 300, but a series of rapid innings from the Glamorgan batsmen reeled in the target with three balls to spare.
Mark Cosgrove took just 50 balls over his 69 at the top of the order and every Glamorgan batsman reached double figures - and at a decent pace, which meant the required rate never got out of control. David Hemp anchored the latter stages of the chase with a measured 79 off 77 balls and was helped by some clean striking from Mark Wallace and Ryan Watkins.
It was another disappointing effort from West Indies' bowlers and wasted a fine century from Smith. He added 106 for the first wicket with Lendl Simmons and 160 for the second with Runako Morton, who 89 off 84 balls. However, even those fireworks were not enough after Glamorgan's teamwork.

Spinners seal series for India

India Under-19 clinched the Test series against England Under-19 after a fine performance from their spinners on the final day at Shenley

India Under-19 clinched the Test series against England Under-19 after a fine performance from their spinners on the final day at Shenley. England had to bat throughout the day to save the match, but couldn't quite pull it off despite Michael O'Shea's 56. Shahbaz Nadeem was the main star for India with a five-wicket haul.
England slumped during the morning session as Nadeem added to his overnight wicket of Varun Chopra by removing Billy Godleman and Greg Wood. He also dispatched Adil Rashid 12 and at 107 for 5, India could sense their victory.
However, they were held up by a fighting partnership between O'Shea and Adam Lyth - who helped to save the first Test with an impressive century - as the sixth-wicket pair knuckled down against the spinners. Karan Singh, an 18-year-old legspinner, made the breakthrough when he dislodged Lyth and England's lower order struggled to keep out the bowling.

India edge ahead in tight contest

This was a day for the diehards. India's batsmen continued where they left off yesterday, in painstakingly slow fashion, as they crawled to a 238 for 7, at barely two an over. By the close they had sneaked ahead of England's total - itself an innings to test the patience - and they still had three wickets intact.
Katherine Brunt got England's day off to a flyer, trapping both openers Karu Jain and Monica Sumra lbw early on (34 for 2). Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj rallied to add 85 for the third wicket, and India built on their innings from there.
But not, alas, in electrifying fashion. Tight bowling from England made their progress slow at best, with Jenny Gunn finishing the day with the ridiculously economical figures of 29 overs for 42 runs.

Ireland secured the European Championship title when their final match against the Netherlands, at Ayr, was abandoned because of rain. Ireland were well on course for victory after racking up 274 and running through the Dutch top order.
The Ireland total was based around consistent contributions throughout their order. Andre Botha and William Porterfield laid a solid foundation and carried the Irish to 93 for 1. Niall O'Brien, the Kent wicketkeeper who was available for this tournament after Geriant Jones was dropped by England, struck a fluent half-century but the real fireworks came towards the end.
Kyle McCallan opened his shoulders and crunched 50 off 32 balls to push the total well beyond 250 before Ireland were bowled out off the last ball of the innings.

Aggressive India set England daunting total

England Under-19s have been set an unlikely 447 for victory in the third Test against India Under-19s at Shenley

England Under-19s have been set an unlikely 447 for victory in the third Test against India Under-19s at Shenley. India's batsmen rollicked along at nearly four runs-per-over in their second innings with Sumit Sharma falling one short of a deserved hundred, as the visitors continued their vice-like grip over England.
Indeed England's batsmen showed little capacity for a fight this morning as they capitulated from their overnight score of 212 for 6 to 261 all out. Only Rory Hamilton-Brown showed the required application with an unbeaten 81 as the medium pacer, Abu Nechim, wrapped up the innings with 4 for 59.
India soon lost their openers in reply, but their middle-order steadied proceedings with Sharma finding good support from Virat Kohli (46) and Parvez Aziz who played aggressively for his 65. Declaring on 293 for 7 this left England the mountainous total of 447 to chase down, and they started disastrously, losing Varun Chopra for 28 minutes before the close. With one day left, their backs are against the wall.

India women blast out England

India enjoyed a commanding day in the field on the opening day of the first Test at Leicester, bowling England out for 223 and then crawling to 11 without loss by stumps

India enjoyed a commanding day in the field on the opening day of the first Test at Leicester, bowling England out for 223 and then crawling to 11 without loss by stumps. A battling stand of 93 between Caroline Atkins and Beth Morgan spared England's blushes to rescue them from the mire at 96 for 5, but they will still be kicking themselves for losing so many early wickets and falling away so easily.
The visitors got their day off to a happy start, with Rumeli Dhar dismissing Laura Newton early, for 4. The remaining opener Charlotte Edwards (16) set about stabilising the innings with Claire Taylor (32) but her fall at 51 for 2 triggered a collapse in which England lost five wickets for 41. That included a wicket for Preeti Dimri on debut; she trapped Jenny Gunn lbw for 14. Dimri later collected the wicket of Jane Smit, for 12.
England's debutants, Sarah Taylor and Laura Marsh didn't have such a great first day, both trapped by Jhulan Goswami in single figures. Taylor, 17, and a protégé of Clare Connor, made just 9 runs, with Marsh striking 3 at No 11. Rosalie Birch departed in the same manner for a four-ball duck.
