India clinch the series

India sealed the one-day series with a resounding five-wicket victory at Multan

The pace attack did the damage, and the batsmen then rubbed it in - despite a stutter or two - as India sealed the one-day series with a resounding five-wicket victory at Multan. When Suresh Raina, who batted with composure and class for 35, carted Imran Farhat over midwicket for the winning runs, there were still 105 balls to be bowled. The lights may have been on at this splendid venue, but they had gone out on Pakistan much earlier in the day, with only Inzamam-ul-Haq offering some fight in an abysmal batting display.
Controlled spells from Irfan Pathan and S Sreesanth had Pakistan stuttering from the outset, and Rudra Pratap Singh then picked up two wickets in two balls to have them reeling at 29 for 4 before a 68-run partnership between Inzamam and Mohammad Yousuf - the only other batsman to cross 20 - hinted at something like a competitive total. But once Ajit Agarkar got one to shape away and take the edge of Yousuf's bat, it was little short of a procession, with Sachin Tendulkar once again scalping the prized wicket of Inzamam.

Adam Griffith led Tasmania's upset victory over Victoria, who still lead the competition despite the 120-run loss, with five wickets at the Junction Oval. The Bushrangers began the final day needing 267 for victory, but their worrying position of 4 for 152 got worse with the loss of the overnight batsmen Nick Jewell and Cameron White before lunch. Jewell fell to Griffith after adding only two runs and White slipped against Brett Geeves on 73.
Shane Warne and Adam Crosthwaite delayed the end with a 90-run stand, and Warne was comfortable in making 62 until he was run-out trying to take a second on the arm of Griffith. Crosthwaite did not want the extra run and Griffith's throw was relayed to the bowler's end for an easy dismissal.

Having failed to get beyond the quarter-final stage of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, Bangladesh are preparing to be the next best in the competition when they took a step towards finishing in fifth place of the competition. On Wednesday they made a spirited fight back, after languishing on 48 for 4, to score 162 for 6 and beat the West Indies by four wickets in the first semi-final of the Super League play-off.
Bangladesh were indebted to Shamsur Rahman (44) and Mehrab Hossain (35) who shared a 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket to steer them towards the victory target after West Indies had been dismissed for a paltry 161.
The stand enabled Bangladesh to overcome the early losses caused by fast bowler Nelon Pascal - who finished with figures of 4 for 53 - who was supported by Shamarh Brooks whose ten overs cost just 27 runs.

Victoria were desperately trying to avoid an outright defeat that would dint their chances of hosting the Pura Cup final as they were out-played by Tasmania at the Junction Oval. The Bushrangers currently have a two-point lead at the top of the table, but they have been upset by the competition's bottom side and require another 267 runs on the final day for an unlikely victory.
Cameron White and Nick Jewell both posted half-centuries in an unbroken stand of 84 after combining at the trouble of 4 for 68. Set a target of 419, which would be the fifth-largest winning chase in the competition's history, the Bushrangers began badly when Dan Marsh, the captain, grabbed two smart slips catches to oust Jon Moss and David Hussey for single figures. However, White (61) and Jewell (52) settled the situation and moved the side to 4 for 152 at stumps.

India humiliate woeful England to reach World Cup final

India humilated England who were dismissed for just 58 in the semi-final of the Under-19 World Cup

Cheteshwar Pujara's brilliant unbeaten 129 put England to the sword © ICC
Before this match Venkatesh Prasad, the Indian coach, told his team to be ruthless. They obviously listened. Their performance at the Premadasa Stadium, in the first Super League semi-final, was as close to perfection as is possible. The batsmen, led by Cheteshwar Pujara's unbeaten 129, put the England attack to the sword, then the new-ball attack of Vijaykumar Yomahesh and Abu Nechim Ahmed tore the batting to shreds as they crashed to a humiliating 58 - comfortably their lowest score at this level.
England's bowlers have kept them in the tournament with a series of impressive performances, but tonight they came up against a high-class line-up who showed no mercy. Pujara and Gaurav Dhiman made an effort to attack the spinners when they were thrown into action early and, apart from a brief period when they claimed two quick wickets, the onslaught was relentless.

New Zealand beat USA by 170 runs
Scorecard
New Zealand beat USA by 170 runs to book a place in the final of the Plate Championship. Led by an excellent unbeaten 100 by Andrew de Boorder, New Zealand posted an imposing 295 for 8 after being sent into bat before dismissing USA for 120 in 29.3 overs, with seamer Hamish Bennett collecting 4 for 16. de Boorder's innings spanned just 115 balls, included eight fours and continued his rich vein of form as he made 87 against Ireland. With useful contributions from opener Todd Astle (59) and Martin Guptill (42) to back up de Boorder's innings, New Zealand made the USA bowlers suffer in conditions that were once more hot and humid. Abhimanyu Rajp took 5 for 61.
USA lost wickets at regular intervals and, after a promising beginning when they reached 35 for 0 in the seventh over, they collapsed. Only one player - Sumon Bari, with 23 - reached 20 and they never came close to threatening the target.
Despite two wins in as many days, New Zealand coach Dipak Patel said his side still had more to offer. "We still have not played to our full potential," he said. "Our preparation before the tournament was minimal and that was shown in our early results and we are still struggling with the new ball, although our spinners and medium-pacers are doing a good job now.

South Africa took a step towards winning the Plate Championship of the Under-19 World Cup when they made short work of Scotland, beating them by the compelling margin of 185 runs on Tuesday.
Put into bat, South Africa - still smarting under the failure to qualify for the Super League - made mincemeat of the hapless Scotland bowlers to pile up 337 for 8, the highest total of the tournament. Scotland were dismissed for 152 off 40.4 overs.
South Africa's match-winner was the left-hander Jean Symes who deservedly bagged the Man-of-the-Match award; after his knock of 63 off 90 balls, he grabbed 3 for 38 in a superb allround display.

New Zealand's surge avoids Irish upset

Eyeing a famous win over New Zealand for much of the match, Ireland eventually fell by three wickets

This tournament has come close to producing an upset on a couple of occasions before the favourite has squeezed through, and today Ireland appeared to be en route to inflict a heavy defeat of New Zealand. Eoin Morgan's outstanding 124 powered Ireland past 300 and when their opponents were 150 for 4, with the asking rate over eight, the Irish were eyeing a famous win. However, a display of hugely powerful hitting from Tim Southee, and a determined 87 from Andrew de Boorder, carried New Zealand across the line in a blaze of boundaries, with four balls to spare.
The pair took advantage of an attack that wilted under the heat and against the onslaught, regularly finding the rope and often going over it. In a strange decision from Morgan he refused to bring back his strike bowler, Niall McDarby, who had taken 6 for 50 against England earlier in the tournament, until the game was well within New Zealand's grasp.
Although McDarby did strike late on, it was not enough to steal the match back at the end. Ireland will be ruing a couple of missed chances, including a vital stumping against de Boorder when he was on 16. However, nothing can be taken away from Kiwi comeback.

Tasmania grabbed a first-innings lead against Victoria and threatened to create a major upset in the Pura Cup match at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. Powered by a four-wicket haul from Brendan Drew, Tasmania, who are bottom of the points table, dismissed Victoria for 135 and gained a 160-run lead. However, they chose not to enforce the follow-on and were 5 for 141 by the end of the second day.
No Victorian batsmen passed 25 as Drew, who has taken seven wickets at 54.85 in his three first-class games, grabbed his four victims in 18 balls before lunch. But the Bushrangers fought back through a disciplined bowling performance - Shane Harwood picked up 2 for 23 - to reduce Tasmania to a shaky 5 for 97 before Dan Marsh and Sean Clingeleffer added 44 vital runs. Given the Bushrangers' recent record of successful chases, Tasmania will be looking to set a big target.
