New Zealand beat USA by 170 runs
Scorecard
New Zealand beat USA by 170 runs to book a place in the final of the Plate Championship. Led by an excellent unbeaten 100 by Andrew de Boorder, New Zealand posted an imposing 295 for 8 after being sent into bat before dismissing USA for 120 in 29.3 overs, with seamer Hamish Bennett collecting 4 for 16. de Boorder's innings spanned just 115 balls, included eight fours and continued his rich vein of form as he made 87 against Ireland. With useful contributions from opener Todd Astle (59) and Martin Guptill (42) to back up de Boorder's innings, New Zealand made the USA bowlers suffer in conditions that were once more hot and humid. Abhimanyu Rajp took 5 for 61.
USA lost wickets at regular intervals and, after a promising beginning when they reached 35 for 0 in the seventh over, they collapsed. Only one player - Sumon Bari, with 23 - reached 20 and they never came close to threatening the target.
Despite two wins in as many days, New Zealand coach Dipak Patel said his side still had more to offer. "We still have not played to our full potential," he said. "Our preparation before the tournament was minimal and that was shown in our early results and we are still struggling with the new ball, although our spinners and medium-pacers are doing a good job now.

South Africa took a step towards winning the Plate Championship of the Under-19 World Cup when they made short work of Scotland, beating them by the compelling margin of 185 runs on Tuesday.
Put into bat, South Africa - still smarting under the failure to qualify for the Super League - made mincemeat of the hapless Scotland bowlers to pile up 337 for 8, the highest total of the tournament. Scotland were dismissed for 152 off 40.4 overs.
South Africa's match-winner was the left-hander Jean Symes who deservedly bagged the Man-of-the-Match award; after his knock of 63 off 90 balls, he grabbed 3 for 38 in a superb allround display.

New Zealand's surge avoids Irish upset

Eyeing a famous win over New Zealand for much of the match, Ireland eventually fell by three wickets

This tournament has come close to producing an upset on a couple of occasions before the favourite has squeezed through, and today Ireland appeared to be en route to inflict a heavy defeat of New Zealand. Eoin Morgan's outstanding 124 powered Ireland past 300 and when their opponents were 150 for 4, with the asking rate over eight, the Irish were eyeing a famous win. However, a display of hugely powerful hitting from Tim Southee, and a determined 87 from Andrew de Boorder, carried New Zealand across the line in a blaze of boundaries, with four balls to spare.
The pair took advantage of an attack that wilted under the heat and against the onslaught, regularly finding the rope and often going over it. In a strange decision from Morgan he refused to bring back his strike bowler, Niall McDarby, who had taken 6 for 50 against England earlier in the tournament, until the game was well within New Zealand's grasp.
Although McDarby did strike late on, it was not enough to steal the match back at the end. Ireland will be ruing a couple of missed chances, including a vital stumping against de Boorder when he was on 16. However, nothing can be taken away from Kiwi comeback.

Tasmania grabbed a first-innings lead against Victoria and threatened to create a major upset in the Pura Cup match at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. Powered by a four-wicket haul from Brendan Drew, Tasmania, who are bottom of the points table, dismissed Victoria for 135 and gained a 160-run lead. However, they chose not to enforce the follow-on and were 5 for 141 by the end of the second day.
No Victorian batsmen passed 25 as Drew, who has taken seven wickets at 54.85 in his three first-class games, grabbed his four victims in 18 balls before lunch. But the Bushrangers fought back through a disciplined bowling performance - Shane Harwood picked up 2 for 23 - to reduce Tasmania to a shaky 5 for 97 before Dan Marsh and Sean Clingeleffer added 44 vital runs. Given the Bushrangers' recent record of successful chases, Tasmania will be looking to set a big target.

Adam Gilchrist finished his home international season the way he started it by smashing a national record for the fastest century as he led Australia to a 2-1 VB Series finals victory. With Gilchrist, the Man of the Match, galloping to his hundred in only 67 balls - it arrived six deliveries sooner than his 103 in the second Super Series ODI in October - Australia underlined the Adelaide loss in the opening match as a blip in a dominating performance that matched Sunday's 167-run victory.
Sri Lanka's seemingly testing total of 9 for 266 looked scrawny as soon as Gilchrist shrugged off a slow start, and he bounded to 122 off 91 before Simon Katich reached his overlooked maiden century to secure a nine-wicket victory. Gilchrist supplied a devastating performance in a rare third final and the power of his hitting stunned a crowd of 26,139 that turned up at only two days' notice, and delayed the finish by pelting the ground with empty cups.

Travis Birt and Michael Di Venuto narrowly missed centuries, but their bright contributions gave Tasmania a solid start in their Pura Cup match against Victoria at St Kilda. The Bushrangers suffered a double blow before the match when the top-order batsmen Brad Hodge and Jason Arnberger were ruled out with flu, and the Tigers added to their problems until Gerard Denton's late strikes helped dismiss them for 295.
Michael Di Venuto lost his opening partner David Dawson when he offered no shot and was lbw to Denton's second ball of the match, but he settled his side against Victoria, who hold a two-point lead at the top of the table. Hitting 13 fours, Di Venuto found the conditions comfortable and he seemed certain to pick up a century before he edged Denton behind for 96.

Aavishkar Salvi never allowed the run chase to hit the road, grabbing three top-order wickets to reduce Gujarat to 38 for 5. Hrishikesh Kanitkar's 48 and lower-order contributions propelled Maharashtra to victory against Saurashtra in a low-scoring encounter at Vadodara. Shitanshu Kotak came up with a patient 158-ball 73 but it was a breezy 70 from Rakesh Dhurv that lifted Saurashtra to a fighting 180 for 5 in the allotted overs. Kanitkar anchored the run chase and despite losing wickets regularly the lower order batsmen chipped in with small but vital contributions that enabled Maharashtra overhaul the target in 43.2 overs.
Yashpal Singh's 100 and Narender Kumar's five-wicket haul powered Services to a resounding 131-run win against Jammu & Kashmir at the Palam A Stadium in New Delhi. Narender Singh and Sarbajit Singh hit half-centuries to join in the run-fest with Yashpal to lift Services to a mammoth 304 for 6 in their allotted overs.
