Surrey justified their decision to bat first with an opening stand of 80 and
then lost wickets to the turning ball as the combination of off-spinner Gary
Yates and leg-spinner Chris Schofield rocked them back on their heels.
Alec Stewart had set the scoring pace early for Surrey with his confident
stroke-play and was well supported by Ian Ward. But having got off to a fine
start, Stewart, just one short of his half-century, attempted to square-cut
left-arm spinner, Gary Keedy but chopped the ball on to his stumps.

In his first NatWest Trophy match of the summer, Tim Hancock scored his maiden one-day century to steer Gloucestershire to a convincing 62 run win over Northamptonshire at Bristol.
The 28 year-old Gloucestershire vice-captain, who fractured his knuckle during fielding practice in the match against Zimbabwe last month, missed Gloucestershire's controversial start to their NatWest campaign.

Nick Knight gained some consolation for his omission from the England squad
for the next Test Match against West Indies by hitting a match-winning century for Warwickshire against Glamorgan in their NatWest Trophy quarter-final match at Birmingham.
The left-hander, who in spite of being recognised as a limited-overs specialist had missed the recent NatWest Series triangular tournament through injury, struck 118 runs in the victory by 81 runs. His 123 runs third-wicket partnership with Dominic Ostler (63) was the foundation of the 273-7 total.

The anxiously awaited final between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the two top teams in the competition was played at the National Stadium Karachi. The teams were evenly balanced and equally favourite, but at the end Sri Lanka proved superior in all departments of the game. Despite a batting collapse they piled up a challenging total of 230 to defeat Pakistan by 57 runs and clinch the trophy.
Sri Lanka opened with Ehsan Mutalib and Harish Ratnayke, playing aggressive cricket from the very beginning. Making use of Pakistan's careless and colorless fielding, they hit thrilling shots to the boundary rather too often.
Maintaining an impressive run rate of over 6, they took Sri Lanka to 69 for no loss in 10 overs. Continuing with the run spree, the two of them raised the score to 106 in 20 overs.
Following a well-planned strategy, the Sri Lanka youngsters were losing no opportunity of collecting runs. The run spree continued till the 1st wickets fell at 149. Ehsan Mutalip was out after scoring an adventurous 71. With Sri Lanka at 178 his opening partner Ratnayke was also back to the pavilion after playing an enterprising innings of 81 runs. The ouster of these two stalwarts set in a collapse for Sri Lanka.

Having begun the season with high hopes after their overseas signing, the
highest paid player on the county circuit, Shane Warne, and acquiring the
services of Allan Mullally from Leicestershire, Hampshire would now have faced the possibility of ending the season with no significant achievement if they had made their exit from this quarter-final of the NatWest Trophy.
Now having despatched Middlesex so convincingly, by seven wickets, they stand just one step away from a place in a showpiece final.

Series. He returned to the side for the Vodafone Challenge match against
Yorkshire at Leeds and took 5-19 in 16 overs of high-class bowling.

The Jamaican, who aims to improve on his 467 wickets when the Third Test Match
starts at Manchester, came back to the attack to dismiss the last three
county batsmen in five balls. The raw Yorkshire batting, of whom John Inglis
and Scott Richardson were making their first appearance, could not cope with
Walsh on a pitch favourable to his bowling.

Under-17 Asia Cup Cricket Tournament after chalking up a crushing 10-
wicket victory over the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) at the National
Stadium here on Sunday.
In fact, the second semi-final proved to be a mismatch as the hosts
totally outclassed the relatively inexperienced ECB side.
Had Pakistani bowlers not conceded as many as 36 extras, the match
could have been over well before the scheduled lunch interval.
However, openers Khalid Latif and skipper Salman Butt, who had carried
Pakistan to 48 for no loss in nine overs prior to lunch, completed the
formalities within 20 minutes after the break as the home side reached
89 in 15 overs in reply to ECB's 85 all out.

Bangladesh to cruise into the final of the Under-17 Asia Cup Cricket
Tournament at the National Stadium here on Saturday.
The islanders' opponents for Tuesday's final will be decided tomorrow
when hosts Pakistan face the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) in the
second semi-final.
Sri Lanka, who were sent in by Bangladesh skipper Nafees Iqbal, built
their score of 214 around a solid opening stand of 71 between Ishan
Mutalip (36 off 82 balls with four fours) and the left-handed Haresh
Ratnayake (32 off 60 balls with two fours).
The impetus to the Sri Lankan innings was provided by Man-of-the-Match
Jeewan Mendis, who made 42 off 41 deliveries with four boundaries.
Mendis and all-rounder Prasad Ranawaka (28 off 21 balls with three
fours) were involved in a sixth-wicket partnership of 50 in 36 balls
as the final 10 overs of the innings realized 87 runs.

Sri Lanka having already sailed into the finals of the championship, it was now Pakistan's turn to join them being the other top team in the competition. Emirates, the new entrants in the game were not expected to create any hurdles in Pakistan's passage to the finals.
Batting first UAE had a disastrous start. Not being able to withstand the fiery attack of Altaf Hussain and Najaf Shah, UAE lost 5 wickets for 36 runs. The tumbling of wickets continued till the whole team was out for 85. With 36 Mr. EXTRAS was the highest contributor to the total as against Mohammad Abdullah who was the top scorer with 15. The UAE innings collapsed because their batsmen did not apply themselves. The team appeared in some sort of a hurry.
Facing the easy target of 86 runs to win, Pakistan was 48 for no loss by lunch.
Resuming after lunch the batsmen continued with the run spree playing one shot to the boundary after the other. While they dominated the field, the fielders were feeling absolutely miserable. Convinced of their defeat they were not putting in the efforts to check the shots heading towards the boundary.

Graham Thorpe's unbeaten century was the main factor in Surrey's defeat on
Nottinghamshire by 127 runs with just under ten overs remaining at Guildford - a victory which has extended their lead at the top of Division Two of the National League.
The England left-hander contributed 126 n.o. to Surrey's 273-3 from 45 overs, which was the highest score made against Nottinghamshire in the League this summer. The visitors were then bowled out for 146 in 35.2 overs.
