Chris Rogers will cut short his agreed break to help out Derbyshire. The club confirmed to Cricinfo that a joint decision had been made between Rogers and Derbyshire to contract his holiday from four or six weeks to two.
He was scheduled to take a rest from the rigours of year-round cricket after playing a full season in Australia prior to arriving in Chesterfield, however Mahela Jayawardene's unavailability has led him to agree to the fortnight off. Jayawardene cancelled his deal because of international commitments, while Derbyshire had no plans to find a replacement for that period, particularly having signed Wavell Hinds. Rogers' agreement, however, will be an undoubted boost.
John Morris, Derbyshire's head of cricket, said: "It was always planned that Chris would take a mid-season break and we are delighted it is going to be a short one. He has been in excellent form this season and we want to ensure he is firing on all cylinders at the business end of the summer.
"He will miss the opening stages of the Twenty20 Cup but could play a part later on, it will depend on how we are performing in the competition and how Chris is feeling then."
Rogers' break begins at the end of the Championship match against Worcestershire which starts on Friday 6 June.
