Left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty has been added to Australia's one-day squad to play Pakistan in the UAE after allrounder Mitchell Marsh was ruled out due to his hamstring injury.
Marsh is concentrating on returning to fitness in time for a potential Test debut later this month and he will not be risked in the ODI series, which begins in Sharjah on Tuesday.
The spinning conditions in Dubai for Sunday's T20, as well as the expectations that there will be plenty of turn in all three venues for the one-day games, encouraged the selectors to replace Marsh with a spinner.
Doherty last played for his country on Australia Day in an ODI against England but then slipped behind Nathan Lyon as the team's preferred frontline one-day spinner.
"The team's medical staff have now confirmed that Mitchell Marsh will not take part in any of the ODI series following his hamstring injury," national selector Rod Marsh said. "As selectors we have decided to replace him with Xavier for this component of the tour.
"The pitch on Sunday night during the T20 International turned significantly and there is a strong chance we will encounter these conditions during the rest of this Series. As such, we have elected to bring Xavier over to Dubai as an extra spinning option.
"He performed very well for the Hobart Hurricanes in India during the recent Champions League and is an experienced campaigner."
Doherty will arrive in Dubai on Wednesday morning and will be available for selection for the second and third ODIs.
