Wicketkeeper Anamul Haque's 81 steered Bangladesh Under-19s to a competitive total against their Sri Lankan counterparts on the first day of the first Test in Fatullah.

After choosing to bat, Bangladesh were wobbling at 119 for 5 as the top order batsmen failed to capitalise on getting starts. No. 7 Haque then strung together a bunch of substantial partnerships - 47 with Irfan Sukkur for the sixth, 45 with Noor Hossain for the seventh, and 57 with Taijul Islam for the eighth. Haque was eventually the last man to be dismissed, after hitting eight fours and a six.

Offspinner Rushan Jaleel was the most successful of the Sri Lankan bowlers, taking 3 for 80. The visitors had five overs to bat out before stumps, in which they scored 28 runs without losing a wicket.
