Old DOHS slump to seventh defeat

A round-up of the Dhaka Premier League matches on December 1

Fifties from the Abahani Limited batsmen Litton Das, Raqibul Hasan and Nasir Hossain sent Old DOHS Sports Club crashing towards their seventh straight defeat of the season. Opting to bat, Abahani lost Abdul Mazid early, but Das (66) and Raqibul (56) led a recovery by adding 48 for the third wicket, before Raqibul and Nasir (60) combined for a fourth-wicket association which yielded 97 runs. Raqibul and Nasir were both dismissed in the 39th over, but Chamara Silva (33) and Al-Amin (35) provided a late surge with an unbroken 80-run stand.
Old DOHS never really got going in their chase and their momentum was hampered by wickets at regular intervals. Nihaduzzaman top-scored with 43, but with no other batsman contributing more than 20, they were dismissed for 131 inside 46 overs. Nazmul Islam was the pick of Abahani's bowlers, taking 3 for 13.
Pacer Mohammad Shahzada's quick strikes at the top and as many as three run-outs limited Partex Sporting Club to 183, which Brothers Union overhauled with seven wickets to spare in their Dhaka Premier Division match.
Shahzada's strikes had pushed Partex to a precarious 36 for 5 and it was only a seventh-wicket partnership of 61 between Mehrab Hossain jnr and Arman Hossain. Mehrab's 128-ball 62 anchored Partex's innings and he added a few runs with the lower order before he was run-out in the 48th over. Brothers Union's chase was shepherded by fifties from Nazimuddin (68) and Joe Denly (56*), who also shared a stand of 100 runs for the third wicket.
Kamrul Islam Rabbi (3 for 27) and Abu Haider (3 for 20) took three wickets apiece to set up Victoria Sporting Club's seven-wicket win against Kalabagan Krira Chakra in Savar. Kalabagan, batting first, were in a promising position at 52 for 1, but the loss of their top-scorer Shamsur Rahman (34) in the 15th over triggered a slide which saw the team lose their last nine wickets for just 70 runs to be bowled out for 122 in 43.2 overs. Victoria had little trouble hunting down such a paltry total, as Dhiman Ghosh's 44 and Marshall Ayub's 35 helped the team home in 29 overs.
