And that's that! Short ball pulled to deep square leg and the Perth Scorchers have won by nine wickets! A totally dominant display!
Hurricanes vs Scorchers, 9th Match at Perth, BBL 2023, Dec 20 2023 - Match Result
Scorchers won by 9 wickets (with 23 balls remaining)
Chris Jordan and Dooley's 65-run partnership is HH's highest for the 8th wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 45 between Shoaib Malik and Hilfenhaus
Zak Crawley and Aaron Hardie's 157-run partnership is PS's highest for the 2nd wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 111 between Bancroft and Aaron Hardie
7.40pm Here's the updated table with the Scorchers now up to second place. Hobart meanwhile are just one place off the bottom, though they're unlikely to face a lineup the calibre of the Scorchers every day. But on that note it's wrap from us, on behalf of Sudeep and the rest of the team this is Madushka signing out!
Andy C: "157* is the second highest 2nd wkt partnership in BBL history"
7.25pm So Perth Scorchers have once more proved their title credentials, reaffirming that they are indeed the side to beat. An unbeaten 157-run stand absolutely annihilated what looked like it could have been a tricky chase. Zak Crawley was unbeaten on a 46-ball 65, while Aaron Hardie bludgeoned 85 from 45. This meant that Chris Jordan's unreal 59 off 20 to revive Hobart's flagging innings has been relegated to but a footnote. Jason Behrendorff though, with his figures of 4 for 25 that ripped the spine out of the Hurricanes' batting, is the Player of the Match.
length ball, down leg
Inside out, glorious! Nearly a six! Just picks this up, picturebook stuff, and lofts the drive imperiously
Ellis now
short of a length outside off, chops this into the turf. Hardie is unsure about the single but Crawley, running to the danger end, is halfway there and calls Hardie through for an easy single in the end
good length on off, driven on the up straight to extra cover
short ball, pulled towards deep backward square for a couple more. Brings up the 150 stand!
full and straight, great ball from Jordan. Hardie looks to whip this away but can only get an inside edge into his pads
length ball, worked to deep square leg for one
Full down leg, looks to paddle this and the keeper catches it. Umpire doesn't call wide, but there's also no bat. Looks like it's clipped the pad on the way through
Jordan back into the attack, for what could realistically be the final over of this chase
That makes for five successive double figure overs.
back of a length on the stumps, nudged towards midwicket for another couple
slower ball on the stumps, waits for it and eases it down to long-on
Stewart : "CA should organise a game between scorchers and the Aussie team (or best of the rest). Would generate a lot of attention and be a cash cow for just one game"
Short ball, pulled to deep midwicket for a couple more
Another sumptuous straight drive from Crawley! Good length on the stumps, but Crawley has just smoked this straight back past Ellis
slower ball on middle and leg, Crawley is struck on the front pad as he goes early on the stroke. Was sliding down leg
back of a length outside off, gently worked towards midwicket and they hustle to come back for the second
short again, pulled in front of square this time
short and pulled down to deep square leg for one
seams in sharply off a good length, raps him on the pads as they sneak a leg bye
Crawley once more with that unorthodox whipped pull. Goes flat to deep backward square for a couple
short ball, rises down leg. Well kept
