Nepal fight back to script narrow win

Nepal scraped through to the final of the ninth place play-offs with a narrow four-run win over Namibia at Johor Cricket Academy Oval. Chasing 144 in a match reduced to 34 overs a side, Namibia were comfortably placed at 67 for 2 before a middle-order collapse swung the tide towards Nepal. Raymond van Schoor and captain Louis van der Westhuizen added 50 before Sagar Khadka got the breakthrough, and soon after Raj Shrestha removed Ewaid Steenkamp.

Paras Khadka, the Nepal captain, effected a run-out to dismiss Tiaan Louw, reducing Namibia to 81 for 5. van Schoor though was holding up one end, and his 35-run stand with Keady Strauss before Shrestha struck again. But the crucial dent to Namibia's came into in the penultimate over of the match by Rahul Vishwakarma, his two wickets all but sealed the match, and left them needing 16 off seven balls.

van Schoor perished in the final over bowled by Paras, and No. 10 Gert Jan Coetzee's 9 from four deliveries wasn't enough as Namibia fell short of their target by five runs.

Besides his two wickets and a run-out, Paras also top scored for Nepal with 44. The rest failed to come good as Namibia chipped in with regular wickets. Strauss, the right-arm seamer, took 2 for 25 while Sean Silver finished with 3 for 20 in five overs.

Nepal await the winner of the second semi-final between West Indies and Papua New Guinea on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe Under-19s 186 for 6 (Landman 45*, Moor 37) beat Malaysia Under-19s 142 (Ramly 70, Jaure 3-39) by 44 runs

In another game reduced to 34 overs a side due to rain, Zimbabwe booked their place in the 13th place play-off final with a 44-run win over hosts Malaysia in Johor. The target of 187 proved way out of reach for Malaysia. All their batsmen failed to come good, with the exception of Aminuddin Ramly, who scored nearly half of his team's final score of 142. Prince Masvaure and Kyle Jarvis jolted the Malaysian top order, before right-arm seamer Edzai Jaure took three middle-order wickets. Ramly went on the attack despite the steady fall of wickets, hitting four fours and two sixes in his 67-ball 70. He received very little support from the other end, as only two others managed double figures.

During their innings, Zimbabwe were propelled by useful contributions from their top order, starting with their openers Tinashe Chimbambo and Peter Moor, who added 76. Solomon Mire chipped in with 36 off 39 balls while Daniel Landman ended the innings in a flurry with a 22-ball 45, which included four fours and two sixes.

Zimbabwe will meet the winner of the other semi-final between Ireland and Bermuda on Friday.
