Makes him smell the leather and he is not afraid to take him on, goes for a pull and the ball is perilously close to the outside edge and it's been sent upstairs. It looked like umpire wanted the bowling team to take a review and didn't want to take any risk; definitely an edge and MI Emirates have registered a domineering win over the table-toppers. This is the lowest total in the history of ILT20!
MI Emirates vs Vipers, 22nd Match at Abu Dhabi, ILT20, Jan 27 2025 - Match Result
MI Emirates have absolutely thumped the table-toppers and possibly shaken their confidence with a whopping 154-run victory! It looked like there was no way Desert Vipers could win this uphill battle and they snapped under the scoreboard pressure. Once Fakhar Zaman got out in the powerplay, it was downhill from there and nobody could face the music. MI Emirates were terrific in the field and the bowlers attacked, hit the right areas, triggered mistakes and had an easy day at the office. The carnage earlier from the bats of Tom Banton and Andre Fletcher simply took the game away as they annihilated all of the bowlers. It was a breathtaking batting masterclass from Banton in particular and Fletcher was the perfect foil at the other end
Sam Curran, Desert Vipers Captain: Get (the game) out of the way and move on. That can happen in cricket, we were little off with our fielding and energy. It's such a quick tournament; we play a day after tomorrow and we go again...we can bounce back, no need to panic, it's about learning, reflecting. They both played really well, glad to see fellow Englishman playing really well, Fletcher as well
Nicholas Pooran, MI Emirates Captain: It was pleasing to see. Last two games were tough for us as a group. We had tough conversation with players; players executed the plans and that's really nice to see. Banton and Fletcher's partnership was amazing to see, they hit on the big and short side (of the boundary). It was tough to leave a guy out like that (on Akeal Hosein). He is a team guy and its horses for courses and he accepts that.
Tom Banton, Player of the Match: I didn't get off to a flier just kind of knew the longer I stand the more chance I had. Sometimes you don't time it as well as you like and sometimes you do...you come up against very good bowlers as a top order batter, so you need to have a good technique. It's about looking at match situation and scenario and not just about teeing off. We have come on the back of two losses, and we were a bit under pressure. It's a special night for MI Emirates but we don't want to take it for granted
Slung down full and attacks the stumps, defended right under his eyes
Fuller on off, pushed into the covers
Length and zinging it back in at Sowter who tries to connect but it's too good for thee, nearly hit the off
Poked at the nasty bumper on middle, cramped for room, tries to pull that behind square and gloved it to the keeper. Umpire took his time before raising the finger. Gone for 8
Shorter on off, squeezed out to deep point
Good length just outside off, driveable length, Banton runs back to cut it off at extra cover
Bouncer dug in and it's growing on him, wide on height
A thunderbolt kicking and screaming off the surface from a shorter length and rising from top of off, beating his ambitious drive
Back of a length on middle, goes over the top of middle
Another wrong'un turning away from off, dragged across the line to deep midwicket
Beaten comprehensively, superb wrong'un, spins away sharply and beats his attempted slog sweep
Slows up the pace and offers plenty of flight, on middle, clears front leg and swings it lustily over midwicket for a biggie! Was a bit too full and right in his hitting arc
Tossed and turning away outside off, pulled away to cow corner region
Zings this on a length, a legbreak, leans back and taps it towards mid-off
Over the wicket, googly just outside off, goes back and cuts it
Quicker on a length and straightens a touch at middle, flicked to the right of square leg
Not going to die wondering; plenty of flight and he decides to take the aerial route, muscles it towards long-on and Banton hangs onto it safely, dragged the heave without much oomph
Tossed up on a length just outside off, driven back to the bowler
Over the wicket, tossed up and sliding onto the pads, clinked with the spin behind square leg
