low-full toss outside off, carved away to the right of sweeper cover. Gony runs across and fumbles, sumps up Gujarat's sloppy effort in the field. KKR canter to a 10-wicket win. This is the highest total chased down with all ten wickets in tact in all T20 cricket. Well done, KKR. Perfect start to the season
Guj Lions vs KKR, 3rd match at Rajkot, Apr 07 2017 - Ball by Ball Commentary
KKR won by 10 wickets (with 31 balls remaining)
11pm Lynn pumps his fist and celebrates the win. Opening the batting for only the second time in 86 T20s, Lynn shellacked the joint second-fastest fifty for KKR. While Lynn relied on brute power, Gambhir played some delightful drives to move to a fifty of his own. Gujarat Lions, missing Jadeja and Bravo, struggled with their lines and lengths. That they went for Smith over Faulkner meant they did not have the change-ups and variations either. KKR have sealed a record chase and will next face Mumbai at the Wankhede on Sunday. Lions will face the defending champions Sunrisers in Hyderabad on the same day. Do hang around for the presentation.
Raina: I think 180 still was a good total. We did not bowl well in the first six overs - the bowling was not experienced and it is a learning curve. They played really good cricket shots. We need to learn from here. We missed the experience of Jadeja and Bravo. Jadeja has done really well in T20 format. When you are not bowling well upfront, you need experience, someone like Bravo in the middle. Dinesh batted really well, and had a good first-class season. Still we have batting depth in the team.
Gautam Gambhir: You can't ask for more from Lynny. He took a lot of pressure off me. The bowlers also did a fantastic job. I always feel that somebody who can take the ball both ways will be crucial. We have Kuldeep, Chawla. We are going to give Lynny a longer run. Hopefully he can keep smacking it. These are early days in the tournament - the dropped catches were there - but we need to be proactive in the fielding. We all know how dangerous he is, and hopefully we can play around him. We have just one day to recover and we will have to bring our A game against Mumbai in Mumbai.
Lynn, of course, is the Man of the Match: To hit the ball a long way is my role. Touch wood and I enjoy the role. At the end of the day, it is about preparation. I like the spot at the top, the ball is coming on. I am used to the ball coming on at home. Gauti is such a good player of spin, I can turn the strike to him and I can handle the quicks. One good innings does not make a summer.
Six out of Lynn's top seven scores in T20s have come when chasing. #Lynnsanity. That is all we have for you from this match. Be back for the double-header tomorrow. Cheers and night
slower offcutter, Lynn is through with the slog. Drags an inside edge past midwicket
off-side wide
there is no stopping Lynn. This is a front-foot pull. Muscled over Baz at long-on
Dropped again! Back of a length on middle, clobbered away again. Smith advances from deep square, tumbles, and shells it
Dropped! Would you believe it, Baz drops the catch, parries the ball over the long-off boundary. This is now the best opening stand in the IPL. Off-stump full-toss, swung away in the air. Baz can't cling onto the overhead chance
off-side wide. The night keeps getting worse for the Gujarat bowlers
back of a length and fizzes away outside off, past the outside edge
back of a length on off, a muscular tug to deep midwicket
98ks hurled on off, non-turner, defended back
length ball skids across off, guided to short third man
speared wide outside off, crunched to sweeper
half-tracker outside off, Kaushik hasn't got his length right at all. Lynn lays into it, tonking the ball over long-on
leg-stump yorker, swerves in a touch and raps the pad. They cross over for a leg bye
By the way this is the highest stand for KKR for any wicket
slower short offcutter, Gambhir waits for the ball to arrive and paddles to long leg
Cham: "GL paying price for not selecting any international bowler..."
PK sends down an off-stump yorker, which is dug down to long-on
shortish and outside off, Gambhir controls a pull to deep midwicket
overpitched and outside off, belted down the ground
Both captains have made fifties in this IPL match. This is the eighth instance since 2016 that both captains have made fifties in an IPL game
tucked off the hips for one
Raina turns to PK
down the track and clipped out to deep midwicket
