yes, he can! A final flourish, and the Capitals finish on 133! Misses the yorker by a smidgen on the shorter side, on middle and leg. Stubbs gets his front foot out of the way and muscles it to long on's right. Something to cheer about right at the end, but there is no denying or escaping who the happier side will be at this stage!
DC vs SRH, 55th Match at Hyderabad, IPL, May 05 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
9:18pm An innings that really went nowhere, apart from a little patch towards the end when Ashutosh and Stubbs joined forces. The former, coming in as DC's Impact Player, managed 41 off 26, with the latter remaining unbeaten on that very score, although his knock took ten balls more. That has given DC something to bowl at, but early indications are that they are short.
Now, onto SRH, who called the shots almost for the entirety of that innings. Cummins set the ball rolling with an incredible opening spell, which yielded three wickets. Unadkat was not shabby either at the other end, with Harshal also helping himself to a wicket inside the powerplay. Ansari was a touch more expensive but the damage SRH did early in the piece means they now have a very gettable total in front of them. They, however, might have to wait a bit before getting their chase underway because the drizzle has gotten slightly heavier, with the covers coming on as well. We will be back in a short while to bring you all the updates.
Jaydev Unadkat: (On the pitch and his plans early on) That was the plan. Looking at how the pitch was playing, how the first over went, we knew hitting the deck (was the plan). The basic plan was the same to hit the deck and varying the pace, which is also the strength of a lot of our bowlers. Getting those wickets at crucial times was important and it helped us stop runs as well. From what I saw at the end, it did get better. At the start, it looked like it was stopping, and these little drops of water (with the drizzle now) also could help. (On going around the wicket to KL Rahul) I think as a bowler, we got to have some sort of weapon in your armoury and one of those is changing the angle. I have bowled to him in the past, around the wicket and over the wicket, and I do feel I have a little more chance from around the wicket. You need to have certain changes and changing the angle is one of those.
Right. One ball left. Can Stubbs finish with a boundary?
has a shy at the stumps, and misses! Yorker just outside off. Starc digs it out towards the bowler and runs to get Stubbs on strike. Malinga chances his arm and fails to hit bullseye
Starc joins Stubbs. Two legal balls left in the innings. Around the wicket
miscued and taken comfortably on the fence! Off-pace and banged in so short outside off that Malinga's toe-nail was in danger for a while. The ball gets up high, well above the batter's right shoulder and Ashutosh has to fetch it, while also making all the pace. Fails to do so and offers the simplest of catches to Manohar at deep mid wicket. The plan comes off, and Ashutosh departs after a solid knock!
slower ball on a full length just outside off. Stubbs, sitting deep in his crease, drop-kicks it on the bounce to mid wicket
low full toss on off stump. Ashutosh backs away early and laces it straight to the sweeper at deep cover. He will feel he missed out there, especially with extra cover and mid off up
Malinga sticks to the short-ball ploy, bowling this wide outside off. Ashutosh fetches it and forehands it over the bowler's head. Just a brace, though
Malinga to bowl the last over. Can DC get up to 140?
another slower ball banged into the track outside off. Stubbs moves across, swipes at it with all his might but only swats away a few flies. That was slow. Incredibly slow.
Santhosh: "What are the odds Cummins getting a wicket first ball in his last over?" -- Zero, I'd say. Because he has already bowled out...
back of a length wide outside off. Ashutosh shuffles across, shaping for the scoop but jams it into his body. The ball rolls away towards where the tramlines are, and DC sneak in a run
slower bouncer on off stump. Stubbs jumps up into the air to roll his wrists over it and pulls it towards deep square leg
dug into the track outside off. Ashutosh rises with the bounce and cuts it towards deep point
on-pace, on a back of a length wide outside off. Ashutosh looks for the reverse-ramp but that seems like an afterthought. Misses the ball in the end
fetch that too, says Ashutosh Sharma! Off-pace on a back of a length outside off. Ashutosh gets his front hip out of the way and slugs it over the bowler's head!
Harshal to bowl the 19th
amazing stroke-making! This is almost a perfect yorker, tailing into leg stump. Stubbs, though, gives himself room and then cracks it to sweeper cover's right. Malinga bowled a fairly decent ball, but Stubbs was just too good on that occasion!
Amit: "I am so happy for Stubbs. He has grown leaps and bounds in this tournament. Winning from tough situations and leading his team out of trouble tonight. Augurs well for South Africa." -- Well, DC have not won this game yet, though...
another short ball outside off. Ashutosh opens up his stance and heaves it towards deep mid wicket
slower delivery dug into the track outside off. Ashutosh tries to dab it down to deep third but the lack of pace means he only gloves it on the bounce to the keeper
excellent yorker just outside off. Stubbs has a swing at it and squirts it off the inside edge towards short fine leg. Ashutosh has to scurry for the single but gets there in the end
splits the field perfectly! Slower bumper outside off. Stubbs picks it early, jumps up onto his toes and rolls his wrists to place this surgically between deep mid wicket and deep square leg!
oh, almost a wicket! Into the blockhole outside off. Stubbs digs it out towards the bowler and hits the stumps at the other end. Malinga stretched out his right hand but could not get anything behind it. Had he done so, Ashutosh would have been walking back
This partnership is already worth 43, and has DC believing a 140-145 score could be on the cards. That may not sound like a big total, but it will give them something to bowl at. Can DC pile further pressure on Malinga?
up and over now! And Ashutosh is coming after the Sunrisers! Right in the slot on middle and off. Ashutosh gets under it and lifts it with minimal fuss over mid off!
shot! On-pace and width on offer, and that is a recipe for trouble. Ashutosh brings those fast hands into play and scythes it past backward point!
