And that's that! Just guides this back of a length ball down to the deep backward point boundary to cap off a dominant 6-wicket win for the Jaffna Kings!
Colombo vs Jaffna, 13th Match at Kandy, LPL, Aug 08 2023 - Match Result
Jaffna won by 6 wickets (with 33 balls remaining)
Alright then, that's a wrap. Remember there's a two-day break before the next game, as the action moves back to Colombo. Be sure to join us for that, but until then this is Madushka, on behalf of Fidel, saying goodbye!
Thisara Perera: "Thank God that we're all back in form after two losses. As a bowling unit we did well on this sort of flat wicket. Earlier I said we didn't click with our batting, that's why we brought in Nishan Madushka as a cushion. I feel we can do something special this year as well."
Babar Azam: "We started well but didn't capitalise in the middle overs. We also didn't finish well. When we started we were looking at 180-190, but unfortunately we lost back-to-back wickets. We're just trying to learn from our mistakes and do our 100% going forward."
Pathum Nissanka gets the Striker of the Match award.
Player of the Match goes to Dunith Wellalage for his 2 for 9, which really stifled the Colombo innings: "I want to thank by skipper and my bowling group for giving great support. I always trust myself and do the basics, and try to handle the match situation as best as I can."
Time for the presentation ceremony...
What this means is that this push-pull LPL season continues along on its merry way, with three sides on six points and two more on four.
10.35pm So an easy win for the Kings in the end, as their batters made easy work of a middling chase. Gurbaz gave them an ideal start at the top with a 21-ball 39, and then Madushka hung around through the middle with a 32-ball 46 before falling with the chase almost done. Aside from Naseem Shah, who ended with 2 for 22, none of the Colombo bowlers showed any level of discipline as the Jaffna batters had it all their own way for large parts. Really the only time Colombo looked in the game was in the first powerplay, when Babar and Nissanka were blazing away. After that it was all Jaffna.
defended back to Naseem off a good length
Scores level! Strays on the pads and it's glanced fine for four
short, ducked under. And this is yet another wide, on height this time
waleed: "Teddy: Always easy to say in hindsight."
Full outside off, but pace taken right off. Almost rolls along the ground through to the keeper
12 wides in this innings now.
Short, down leg once more
short, down leg
full outside off, driven to deep cover point
back of a length, defended towards point
good length outside off, left alone
Teddy: "Babar missed the trick - Bad choice to bat first and should've mixed up bowlers better "
short and wide down leg now
Caressed through extra cover! Over pitched and just times this through the offside s
Checked drive behind point! This was full and wide, just opens the face slightly and guides this drive behind point
Oh dear, missed opportunity! Good length on the pads, tucked in front of deep square leg. But there's an almighty mix-up in the middle with Miller stranded half way down the track, but the throw is wild and to the wrong end.
Still only 19 needed from 43, but Naseem is not going down without a fight.
No maiden LPL fifty for Madushka! Chops on this back of a length ball from Naseem, as he looks to dab it behind square
back of a length, 135kph, on the pads. Looks to work it onside but is struck on the thigh guard
good bouncer, 133kph, but does well to get over this and pull it down to deep square leg
back of a length on the stumps, defended watchfully
Here's David Miller
And he strikes straight away! Why wasn't he brought back sooner? This was a back of a length ball but pace-off. Thisara is into the pull too early, and his middle stump is knocked back
Naseem finally back into the attack
short again, and pulled hard, but this time it's to the man at deep midwicket on the bounce
