South Africa win! McLaren fired in a low full toss very wide of off stump, Taylor threw the bat at it but could only send the ball as far as the point fielder, they can only run one and South Africa win the game by one run
West Indies vs South Africa, 2nd T20I at North Sound, May 20 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
So, heartbreak in Antigua for the West Indies fans that turned out today. The home side got so close, thanks mainly to Bravo and Chanderpaul's 68-run partnership for the third wicket, but couldn't quite get over the line. What a dramatic last over! McLaren held his nerve despite being taken for 13 in the over, and South Africa take the Twenty20 series 2-0. South Africa still weren't at their best - it must be said - they dropped a couple of catches and struggled with the bat in Jacques Kallis's absence. Until David Miller - on debut - and Johan Botha came to the crease. Their 57-run partnership boosted South Africa's total just out of the reach of West Indies.
Chris Gayle: "Theres nothing much to say, if we can't get 120 runs. We still have the ODIs to try and turn things around, but I'm just repeating myself every time." ... "There were too many dot balls."
On the squad for the ODI series: "That's something the selectors have to discuss, so we'll see what happens, these are the best cricketers in the West Indies so if they can't do it you have to go an alternative route."
Johan Botha gets the Man of the Match award: "I think I struggled a bit at the start of my innings when Dave was playing freely and he got me to relax a bit and I scored a few runs at the end. Saturday is a new series so we have to start all over again, but it's nice to take some momentum from the win."
Graeme Smith: "It was a bit tense at the end, we just tried to find someone with a calm head out there - Ryan McLaren did the job ... We've performed well enough, our record in competitions is poor but outside of that we've played really well. Confidence is growing."
"We were 10 or 15 runs short, but it was a tough wicket. Chanderpaul and Bravo played well, their partnership kept West Indies in the game."
On David Miller: "It was nice to see a guy come in and hit the ball like that, it was a breath of fresh air. Especially at just 20 years old."
On the rest of the tour: "We've got a lot of work to do after a poor campaign in the World Twenty20 so this is an important tour for us."
That's all from me tonight, folks. Sahil's final bulletin is up, and I'd also like to remind those of you who haven't sated their thirst for Twenty20 cricket yet: There's more Twenty20 action over the weekend, this time from Florida (but not Disneyland, unfortunately). Follow the historic matches in the US between Sri Lanka and New Zealand here on Cricinfo (the Cristal of cricket websites: everything else is ... not quite as good), or watch on ESPN3 if you're in the States, ESPN in the UK, Africa and the Middle East, as well as ESPN2 in the Caribbean. Cricinfo will have video highlights after the games, for those of you who don't have access to ESPN.
They're going to run no matter what happens
Jerome Taylor ambles out with the simple task of finding three runs off the last ball to win this game for his country.
low full toss thrashed out to deep midwicket, they've got to go for two, they do! de Villiers breaks the stumps, and Deonarine's bat is in the air as he slides over the line!
The crowd is really noisy now
Narsingh Deonarine on strike with 4 needed from 2 balls!
pinpoint yorker, hoicked away by Sammy, but they can only get one to square leg! That was the best he could do with that, great bowling
another high full toss, Sammy hammers it down the ground! Amazing running and the crowd has gone mental! They've somehow squeezed four runs out of that, two to long off, and two more off overthrows as the return came in wide of de Villiers. Sammy is down and hurt, he's done himself a mischief. What drama! The crowd has come alive and they're right behind the home side now
very high full toss, Sammy aims an almighty heave to midwicket and the ball flies off the top edge down to third man for four! He's asking about the no-ball for height, but that'll just be the four runs
hoicked out to deep midwicket, there's a fielder out there but they take an easy two
Last over coming up, McLaren to bowl it. West Indies need 15 from 6 to square the series
full toss bunted down the ground, but Steyn runs round from long on to keep it to two
crunched down the ground for one
byes! Four of them! Valuable runs as Botha fires in a quicker one, beating batsman and keeper
another wicket falls, West Indies' chase is unravelling now. Pollard tried to swing Botha out of the ground straight but got right underneath it. Steyn gets underneath it to take a simple catch
short, and smacked in the air to McLaren again! It was wide of him this time though, and in the end he did really well to stop it from reaching the boundary
Sarwan goes! They had to go for everything, Sarwan tried to lift the ball over midwicket but hit into the breeze, McLaren takes an easy catch
Pollard has swung so hard at that, the bat flew out of his hands! It was very full - a yorker that crept under the bat as he heaved with his head in the air, the bat flew up and landed somewhere near de Villiers... Steyn gets a word in Pollard's ear about his technique, and the weather.
full and very wide of off, Pollard swings mightily but can't lay bat on ball
crashed out on the off side, the cover sweeper cuts it off
Steyn's not happy here! He fired in the yorker, Pollard jammed down on it and they set off immediately, Steyn ran for the ball which had dropped close to the stumps but Pollard just ran straight into and through him!
dropped on the leg side now by Sarwan, Steyn sprinted for the ball but slipped on the practice wicket
drop down behind point, Sarwan calls straight away and they hurry through
28 off 18 now, match on!
just full enough for the drive, and Sarwan followed through with the shot to send the ball up and over the cover field, bouncing just short of the boundary to ruin what was a superb over!
Sarwan backs away to leg, Morkel follows him with a back of a length delivery that jagged in, no run
