ACC meets to discuss conduct of Asia Cup

Confusion surrounded the conduct of Asia Cup as some members of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wanted the postponed event to be held in September 2006 while others opposed it.

PCB sources said that Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has been forced to review the decision to put off the continental event, that was scheduled to be held in Pakistan in March next year, because it faced legal action by broadcasters."The broadcasters have paid nearly half the money as guarantee and if the Asia Cup is not hosted, the ACC and all the four members would be taken to court because the postponement was not an ACC decision but a decision taken by India and Pakistan," the sources said.

It is believed that Shaharyar Khan, the PCB chairman, wanted to host the event in September when all the teams would be available. But the move did not receive much support from the Board officials who felt that September would be too hot and came before the home series against Zimbabwe. The issue will be taken up at an ACC meeting to be held in New Delhi on January 3-4.

"The first day is the Finance Committee meeting while on the second day we will discuss about the possibility of having the postponed Asia Cup in 2006," said Salim Altaf, PCB's director of operations.
