Alleyne appointed captain for a further year

Mark Alleyne has been appointed captain of Gloucestershire for a further year.

Alleyne has led the club to unprecedented success. In 1999 Gloucestershire won both the Benson and Hedges Super Cup and the NatWest Trohy, before winning all three major one-day trophies in 2000. 2001 will be his fifth year in charge.

Chief Executive of the club, Colin Sexstone commented: "We are absolutely delighted to re-appoint Mark as Club Captain, who together with John Bracewell has been instrumental in the club's extraordinary success over the last two years. With John recently instaled as Director of Cricket, this appointment secures and confirms the club's cricket management stucture."

Alleyne is a regular in England's one-day squad and will lead the 'A' tour party to the West Indies this winter.

"I am honoured and delighted to be re-appointed as Captain of Gloucestershire for 2001," Alleyne said, "when I hope to build upon our remarkable sucess of the last two years."

John Bracewell, recently told The Cricketer International that Alleyne was an "utterly selfless" leader. "It may be an overused word but the team really love him," Bracewell continued, explaining Alleyne's leadership qualities and the respect he has in the dressing room.
