DHAKA, October 27 - Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin will make his
300th one-day International appearance when they will meet Australia
in an all-important quarter-final of the Wills International Trophy at
the Banghabandu Stadium here in Dhaka.
Azharuddin will be the only player in limited over cricket history to
play 300 matches and only short of 95 runs of Desmond Haynes 8648 in
one-day international matches.
"We are here to display our collective efforts, if we could excel in
all three departments on a particular day we should come out winners,'
said the Indian captain.
India's record in Bangladesh has been quite an impressive one. They
secured the Wills Asia Cup in 1988 and won the Bangladesh Independence
Cup this year.
The Indians are banking heavily on their strong batting line up.
"India has a pretty strong batting line up. They should bat to their
potential to give the bowlers a chance to defend.
Talking about the non-inclusion of off spinner Harbhajan Singh whose
action is not in conformity with cricket laws and has been discovered
by Sri Lankan match referee Ranjan Madugalle, the Indian coach former
test opener Anshuman Gaekwad said that it was a great loss for him and
the team as a whole and hoped to get him back in the squad as soon as
possible.
The Australian team arrived in batches and the rest of the team is
expected today (Tuesday) along with the Pakistanis. The injury plagued
Pakistan side have two more casualties, opener Saeed Anwar the record
holder in one day internationals (194) suffering from an ear infection
and Inzamam-Ul-Haq has an injured toe and knee according to the Chief
of the Pakistan Selection Committee former wicket keeper Wasim Bari.
