The Daily Star-Standard Chartered Cricket Quiz '98 Draw
The draw of the final round of The Daily Star-Standard Chartered
cricket quiz '98 was held at the Jatiya Press Club auditorium
yesterday afternoon.
Munawwar bin Abdul Aziz, a 35-year-old businessman from RK Mission
Road, who was surprisingly present at the draw, won the first prize -
two Dhaka-Kathmandu-Dhaka air tickets, while Probir Halder, a
20-year-old student from New Model Degree College bagged the second
prize - two Dhaka-Calcutta-Dhaka tickets.
The third prize - dinner for two at the Sonargaon Hotel, went to
Mohammad Amzad Hossain, a student from Salimullah Hall of Dhaka
University.
The lucky entries were picked by former national cricket captains ASM
Faruque and Minhazul Abedin.
Chaired by The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, the draw was also
attended by Geoff Williams, the Chief Executive of Standard Chartered
Bank in Bangladesh. The draw was conducted by Dr. Nizamuddin Ahmed,
Advisory Sports Editor of The Daily Star Sport.
In his welcome speech, Mahfuz Anam thanked all the participants of
the quiz competition and also expressed his gratitude to the Standard
Chartered Bank for their cooperation in arranging the quiz. He also
reassured that The Daily Star would continue with their trend of
promoting sports by organising such competitions in future.
Geoff Williams said that the Standard Chartered Bank was delighted to
be a part of the Wills International Cup by sponsoring the quiz
competitions and also congratulated the winners.
Bipul Gain and Farah Diba, the winners of the first and second prizes
in the first round, were also present and received their prizes.
