The Pakistan cricket selectors were a worried lot after Wasim Akram
performed much better than the perennial injuryprone Shoaib Akhtar
in the two-day practice match which concluded at the National Stadium.
The chief selector Wasim Bari refused to make any comments on the
former captain but admitted that his panel had lengthy discussions on
the left-armer.
Bari added that another discussion on the champion bowler will he held
on Aug 26 when the team for the Bangladesh Test is named. He said
skipper Waqar Younis would attend the deliberations and his views
would be given due consideration before the team is finalized. He
however, clarified that there would be no addition to the 27 players
currently attending the camp.
The 'gutless' chief selector, on the second day of the match, failed
to make eye contact with Wasim. However, Aqib Javed did have the
courtesy to visit Wasim and congratulated him for maintaining himself
in perfect physical condition.
