The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given the green signal
for Harbhajan Singh to travel to America to undergo surgery on his spinning
finger. The BCCI said that it was now upto Harbhajan to choose a convenient
date for the operation.
Anant Joshi, the BCCI doctor, and finger surgeon Sudhir Warrier, took a
close look at the injured finger after an MRI scan and x-rays at the
Leelawati Hospital in Mumbai. The two doctors concurred that it was best
that Harbhajan travel to Sinai Hospital at Baltimore, America - the same
place where Sachin Tendulkar underwent surgery on a similar finger injury.
Dr Dror Paley is expected to perform the operation.
Harbhajan's injury first came to light during India's tour of New Zealand,
just prior to the World Cup. Although he played through the World Cup
despite the pain, Harbhajan has not recovered sufficiently even after an
extended break.
