This tournament has further importance in that the winner of the series will move through to the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier, likely to be held during 2007, with the top two teams in this event qualifying for the 2009 ICC Women's World Cup in Australia.
This being the first ICC Women's tournament in EAP and also the first ICC tournament in PNG this series marks a significant achievement and milestone in the development of cricket in the region. The promotion and development of Women's cricket is a key objective of the ICC, along with attracting greater corporate and government support.
To this end, we are delighted that a well respected and community focussed PNG organisation in Brian Bell and Co. is providing substantial support for this event.
Brian Bell & Company founder and Managing Director, Sir Brian Bell is a PNG Cricket Board Patron and commented that; "The participation of females in both social and competitive sport is a great positive for all communities and should be encouraged. Brian Bell and Co. is therefore proud to be associated with the EAP Women's Cricket Challenge and the continued development of women's cricket in PNG".
The Papua New Guinea Cricket Board has played a leading hand in the delivery of this event and their efforts in organising the on and off field activities is greatly appreciated and recognised.
