Caribbean Ispat sponsor WI Champions Trophy team

Caribbean Ispat and the LNM Group have agreed to sponsor the West Indies for the upcoming Champions Trophy, according to The Jamaica Observer. The companies have sponsored West Indian teams in the past as well, most recently the squad for last year's World Cup.

Teddy Griffith, the president of the West Indies Cricket Board, said that the sponsorship opened up another stream of revenue [besides regular pay and prize money during the Champions Trophy] for the team, which would drive the team to perform better. "These streams provide a challenge and incentive to the team to lift the standard of their cricketing performance," said Griffith, "so that they will be able to maximize the financial rewards that are available for consistently good and competitive performances during the tournament."

He added that the team's financial bonuses were directly related to their performance, saying, "The WICB, itself, has, in addition, agreed with the West Indies Players Association payment to the team of an incentive bonus, over and above contractual fees to the players, but again, this is directly linked to the actual winning performance of the team progressively through the competition."
