Carlos Brathwaite's all-round performance in the 2016 T20 World Cup final, which included his famous four sixes in the final over, has won ESPNcricinfo's fan vote for the best performance in the history of the T20 World Cup. Beginning with 16 performances, ESPNcricinfo ran a tournament-style bracket that ended with Brathwaite edging out Yuvraj Singh's 70 off 30 vs Australia in the 2007 semi-final. The other performances that made the final four of the bracket were Shahid Afridi's 51 and 2-16 against South Africa in the 2009 semi-final and Rangana Herath's 5 for 3 vs New Zealand in 2014.
How the bracket went
The final: Carlos Brathwaite's 3-23 and 34*(10) against England in the 2016 final beat Yuvraj Singh's 70 against Australia. While Yuvraj's innings came on the heels of another outstanding knock against England - which included the six sixes in an over off Broad - the sheer unlikelihood of Brathwaite's last-over hitting won him the vote.

The semi-finals: The losing semi-finalists were Afridi and Herath, both of whom were massive parts of their World Cup-winning sides. Afridi's fifty came against a hostile South Africa attack, and he followed it up with the massive wickets of Herschelle Gibbs and AB de Villiers in a frugal spell, all of which helped Pakistan win by seven runs. Herath's scarcely believable figures helped Sri Lanka win a crucial group-stage game. He bowled 18 dot balls in 3.3 overs and dismissed four of the top six.
The quarter-finals: In the last eight of the bracket, Marlon Samuels' 78 off 56 in the 2012 final lost out to Brathwaite, Umar Gul's incredible 5 for 6, which dismantled New Zealand's middle order in a 2009 group game lost out to Afridi, RP Singh's 4 for 13 in a must-win group game against South Africa in 2007 lost to Yuvraj, and Lasith Malinga's 5 for 31 against England in 2012, which included three wickets in his first over, lost out to Herarth.
Round of 16: Among the other performances that made it onto the bracket were Daryl Mitchell's 72 against England in the 2021 semi-final, Jos Buttler's 101 not out off 67 against Sri Lanka in the same tournament, Shaheen Afridi's 3 for 31 in 2021, Virat Kohli's 82 not out against Australia in Mohali, 2016 and Michael Hussey's 60 not out off 24 against Pakistan in the 2010 semi-final.
